Hello Everyone, I am interested in getting started in the field and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a decent starter kit. I am not interested in running out to tattoo, I want to get a feel for the machine in my hand and also to learn machine set-up and maintainence. thanks.

I'm still new to this, but I can tell you what not to get: the V-TEC machine from Superior wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I had a professional tattoo artist check it out and he hated it. He told me to get the old-timer set up with an iron frame machine and a 10-turn power supply. I read somewhere to practice drawing with your machine placed on your pencil or pen, so you can get used to the weight, because it definitely affects how you can draw and control your lines.

Just do like I did and order you a machine, needles, and some ink. You can do that right here from needle jack and everythings pretty low priced so you don't have to give an arm and leg.

thanks for the tips. i had been hearing that the superior products are in fact inferior. i think that the idea of putting the machine on your pen or pencil is a pretty good idea considering the weight difference. i was actually leaning toward the travel kit that can be purchased here, i just wanted some confirmation to my thoughts. so thanks a lot.

the v-tek sounds like it might be an AC machine, not a DC like most being sold today. who knows???
