Every time I work on someone for about two hours or so, the tip of my thumb hurts because I hold the tip so tight. I know if I hold it looser then my thumb won't hurt but I feel that I have to hold it tight to keepp my lines floing smooth. Any suggestions.

are u using SS grips ? if so then try some disposable Lexan tubes and grips , or u can get the rubber grips to use with your metal tubes . I had the same problem for years til I switched to disposable .

mainly from holding a solid piece of metal so tightly , the vibration may take its toll on the hands as well over time . The ruber grips will cut down on that too .

ya if you already have a bunch of stainless tubes then I would suggest getting th erubber grips . I choose to only use the disposable tubes/grips , cause I dont like the cleaning and added exposeure to the stainless tubes . U have to be so extra carefull when cleaning so not to splat anything on your skin , and if your using an ultra sonic cleaner u have to change out the cleaning solution all the time , being carefull not to get that crap spilled anywere . I just prerfer throwing the used tube into the garbage right after use .

Thanks for all the help! I was thinking of getting some rubber grips, but are the fat ones disposable or can you clean them. I have never used the lexan disposables but if I worked in a shop then that would probably be my preference also.

Disposable tubes suck. Set up a machine with a disposable tube and hook it up through a meter, and watch how much it fluctuates as you move your hand. The tubes flex and apply uneven pressure to the needles riding against the tube. They were made for those cheap asses who shouldn't even be tattooing to have an excuse to not buy an autoclave. But as we all SHOULD know, sterilization is dependent upon EVENT. And can anyone here be certain of every EVENT that took place from the time these packages were (allegedly) sterilized, to the time you open the package? NO? Well, then...there goes that idea out the window! The packaging is paper and plastic. Ever see the way most shippers handle packages? You trust that shit is still sterile when it gets to you? How do you know that wet nasty truck didn't just haul a load of rotten chicken prior to hauling your tubes?

If your not sure on weather they have been properly sterilized , then they can be autoclaved . Lexan is very sturdy and durable , I have ran them through my autoclauve at the shop to make sure .

Yes, but what about those people who don't own an autoclave?
And what about the way they make a machine run?

although disposable tubes are great for hygenic reasons , they all create a certain amout of drag , metal against plastic. think about it. hard rubber tube covers may yeild the same results as as s.s. ones. what size grips are you useing? i used 5/8th and 3/4 for a long time and was experiencing the same thing. sharp pain on the ball of my thumb. i switched to 7/8th and 1 inch sizes and now i dont squeeze as hard and my thumb rest on the tube differently . fixed!!! also the larger grip causes less fatigue and steadier lines. i am a small guy with normal size hands.
hope this helps

Ya I dinnt think of that , when I first started I was only using 1/2 inch grips , and always had a problem with doing large pieces , then I switch to 3/4 or 7/8 and it helped alot .

Yes I use the half inch steel tubes i bought from needle jack. So you guys think if I get a bigger grip then my thumb wont become numb and hurt.
P.S seems that we have someone on our hands that knows everything about everything.
