fellow you need a book on that, best way to learn.guy aitchinson, book or huck spalding tattoo from a to z book.guy's book is the shit, but expensive.hucks book ok lot of info you'll need to know.eitherway push the armature down till it touches the front coil hold it then measure between the bar too contact srew.all machines act diffirent so don't be surprised if they don't sound right after you adjust.

I would suggest going to and look under the downloads section an there u will fidn alot of very usfull info on how to adjust ur machine , and technical readouts for all the parts of the machine . it will explain how to adjust ur machine even if u dont get thier power supply(which is one of the best u can get) it would be a good idea to print em out and read through em a fefw times .....

Dude, he gave you a lead to the info you need, meet him halfway, dig it up on yer own now. People are getting lazy! Always asking for shit instead of finding it.

nickle and dime, nickle and dime, nickle and dime..... hold onto those nickles and dimes, if they go out of circulation tattooing will grind to a halt!!!
Sorry had to do that, the ole N&D settings as you will find have stemmed back years, true for some machines not so true for others. N&D's were being used way back, before cushioning the front spring with an o-ring. Spring tension, thickness etc all play a part as do many others.
Let not argue over small change though ;)

wow old thread lol, cant beleive no one answerd him though its a easy enough question. dime = liner, nikle = shader. though its not always right... im in uk too but a member on here was kind enough to send me some nikles and dimes to see if the old myth really worked. all of my machines are set up and running perfect and out of 4 machines the dime/nikel theory was only close to one of my machines set up and that was 1 liner. the rest werent even close to the theory... my air gaps were all alot bigger than the dime/nikel theory though one of my liners was pretty close to a dime but exact on. like inkpressit said theres so many diffrence machines im sure it works on some older ones like the apollo machine.. iv heard of alot of people setting them with dime/nikle with great sucsess. if your still around i would try the dime/nikle and see how it runs... just use it as a guideline more than gospel. if it isnt running smoothly just adjust the gap a lil more each time. eventually it will all be clear. ya just gotta experiment and adjust as much as you can until you find something you like.

Does anyone actually use these exact adjustments or are we mainly tightening and unscrew a lil' , then tinker to the correct hum by re-screwing the (copper only) contact point screw till I get the ink to go in.

to use the nickel dime therory the other parts of the machine must correspond.....depending on the set up the machine has a "sweet spot" may not be a dimes thickness for liner. basically dude you need to decide what speed, force, and throw you need the machine to have for what youre using it for. then set up the springs, cap, and angle of deflection through trial and error. if that dont help read all the post on cc and bbp, then read all the downloads at eikon, then the rest of the post on tips and tricks and machine tweaks and it will all make sense.
