shims under the rear coil..

i just adjusted my 2 machines & one needs shims on the back coil, do i need to shim both coils ? what material should it be?what should the gap be on the rear coil ? 1/16th sound right? the machine is steel.
i also noticed the front springs do not have the same angle to them.
and does the a-bar need to be directly over the coils?(centered)

1 front spring looks to be at a 42* bend while the other is like 34*-35* (on a t-dial type machine) is this normal?

the t-dial is my shader & it seems to work fine. i set the gap at 2mm and ran it (with no load) at 8 volts. sounds good,but i have yet to tattoo with it since adjusting it. the other one works fine as it has the 42* bend on it... :roll:
