Small question here....Spring gauges in .016,.018 and .020 are graduating in thickness from 16 being the thinnest to 20 being the thickest? I know that with electrical wire the smaller the gauge the thicker the wire. Not sure on tattoo machine springs though.

.020 is the actual thickness in inches!
so .018 or .016 are thinner.. :D

usually the thinner spring for color and shading and thicker for outlining.really depends on which you like and and what your comfortable with.i usually stick an 18 in all my machines.or you can get really technical and use an 18 on rear then a 16 on front.play with it till you get what you want out of your machine.

Do you guys cut the spring gauge and use it on you machine?
I've heard of people doing that but never asked any questions about it.

Thanks framey!! :D I've benn tattoing for about twelve years now off and on some times in shops but for the most part out of the house and never knew this site was around its great to see other artist helping each other i think it helps to bring the art to the next level. now that i've found i dont think i'll be leaving it any time soon THANKS!

.16g. = less whip.
.20g = more whip.

You can also do that, but these are just the three settings you need. All in one tool. :D
