Hey guys n' gals, just a quick question about hourly rates. Whats the average per hour do you make? My old boss made me charge $120.00 cnd. an hour and when I went out on my own I decided to charge only $90.00 cnd. an hour, just for a little while to build up some clientel and get people adictted to my work. Does this rate seem too low?

I have a bad tendency to undercharge so I think hourly rate is going to be the way to go. Do you include setup time? I charge extra 20+ for doing custom art design cause that is mostly all I do. Do you all take that into concideration?

The shit hot shop in Marietta gets $120.00 an hour. They have a guy who flys out to Cali and works on Jesse James. I figure that they're twice as good as me and have a lot more overhead. So I'm at $60.00 an hour. I was a lot cheaper than that a few months ago and I'll be more expensive a few months down the road.

Hourly rate around here is about $100 an hour, but unfortunately, there's only one or two shops that are even worth that much. I personally do not charge by the hour. I eye it and spit out a price. Hell, works fine for me. My bidding depends on my mood, the need for bills at the time, and if it's one of those peices I know I'll have a blast doing, I usually charge way under what it's worth, just to be able to jump on it. Sometimes people will come to me and say "but you only charged that much for hers..." I tell them to kiss my ass because no matter how much I charge they WILL not get a better deal for the talent anywhere else. I'm in it for the opportunity to tattoo, not how much money I can make tattooing. Many artists tend to forget this passion for art and turn it into passion for cash. The one thing to remember; you are the one in charge of the price, not them. Just don't let them walk all over you. How much is it worth to you is the only thing you need to bid on.

I know the feeling, I did a three inch moon with a bat on my ex's foot. The drawing had to be re drawn 10xs. Then when I did it of course the tender spots above the toes. She jumped , and the point of the wing got tweeked. Oh that's ok you can get it when you fill it in. This coming from somone who has to have it semetrical to the points.
