that is more raised then the ones I have worked on. Don't know what to tell you there, espicially the length and type of stretched scar. Sounds like it would be quite the pain espeicially for real good color to set in well. Sorry not much help.

My biggest concern is the skin splitting&and how thick the tissue is.
I disscussed all the alternatives to her but she wants a tattoo and is willing to pay for multi sessions. But I still think I should punt. She made a deposit but think it's to risky due the lack of info I can get on the subject.

I tatted over a tummy tuck scar. A real pretty little flower/tribal thing; looked real nice and better than the scar, that's for sure. She came back after it healed and OH NO!! None of the ink stayed in the scar tissue. NONE. She had a white line all through the tattoo, and even after a 2nd sitting the ink still didn't take. Well, learn from our mistakes. She likes the piece but the scar is there, plain and simple. Some scar tissue is shallow enough to take, i.e. stretch marks, little knicks and cuts, they take ink fine, may have to go a 2nd round but the ink will stay. Deeper scars, such as a tummy tuck or c-section scars will reject the ink. Scar tissue like that rejects because it is not living tissue any longer. She can rub tea-tree oil and vitamin-e on the scar daily, but that will take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years to show any signs of improvement on the tissue, if even at all due to the severity of the scar. It's nothing but a waste of time and her money to try and cover it. Sorry, she's SOL.

I tatted over surgical scars on a girl's lower back & so far so good! She too had about 1/4 to 1/2 inch raised scars. I've always thought that scar tissue hurts more than healthy skin, but she couldn't feel a thing when I went over the scar tissue. It's been a couple of months, so maybe that's not long enough to tell yet whether or not it will remain.
what brand of ink did you use to cover the scar oz?

i tattooed a spiders web over a pretty thick and ugly shoulder scar and even though it is just outline as i havent done the shading yet the busy outline is really effective at taking your eyes away from the scar so for me a busy outline and less colour done the trick .... dont think she'd appreciate a web on her belly tho lol

Hello,
Advise the customer that some scars do not take ink very well. If the customer want the tattoo anyway they will get it from you or someone else. I have had mixed result on scar tattooing so i think that it just depends on the scar and the skin. Basically it is a hit or miss deal. :D

Do any of you guys have positive results covering scar tissue that were the result of bullet wounds and shrapnel?
Reason I ask is that I have several holes on my inner right bicep and outer deltoid that were the result of gunfire and one large scar on my left inner quadricep that was the result of shrapnel, and Id like to get them covered. Im bettin tho it will probably be a crapshoot maybe worky, maybe no worky.....Just have to let someone pound some ink into them and see?

I tattooed over a scar on my dad prolly 10" in lenght, 1/4" wide and, it was raised prolly 1/8" to a 1/4" inch, from going thru a windshield, but the scar is like 30 years old. and it took just fine. I also recently tattooed a guy over a medical incision, and i just done black and grey shade, and so far so good, it was a 6 month old scar, and it has been 3 weeks since i tattooed him so I am assuming it is fine.

I actually had to go over some scar tissue last night.. it was just a re-working/coloring of an old tattoo.. a yingyang symbol on a bicep. The ying yang was a cover up of something else.. well..the lighter colors basically were just repelled...but the darker colors looked like they stuck better. I've had the same experience with keloid scars.. it seems that the tissue just kicks out the ink immidiately.. you can't really tell untill it's healed, but it almost never looks like it should. Maybe the client would go for a test area.. just to see.. or maybe just go with a design that would take the viewers eye away from her scar, and onto the tattoo. Good Luck
