Was wondering should you do outline the scales first or after coloring??

I do it first.so you know how to shade it.when i do dragons and such, unless your going to do it like a portrait(never done that seen it done though)where there are no lines just shading.then you just draw in the line or stencil in the lines and shade how ever.just my opinion

I agree- definitely do the lines first- the shading and coloring of the scales are what gives it depth & a realistic look. shading & coloring needs to be done on each individual scale- they each have their own shape- otherwise it'll look 1 dimensional.

Pull your color out of the shade in the scales then whip shade a white highlight from the end of the scale back to the color from the very edge and it will brighten the whole tat and give it some really nice demension. Looks like light is glinting of the edges of the scales.
