I quit for 7 years Bob. But then I got divorced and started smoking again. The way I quit was kinda weird. I kept an unopened pack of Marlboros sitting on my speaker in the living room the whole time I was quitting. I always panicked when I would run out of smokes. Just knowing that they were there was a great comfort. That way the only demon I had to fight was the urge to rip open the pack and smoke 5 or 6 at the same time.

I also ate tons of Wurthers Originals candies. Something about them was more satisfying than chewing gum. Kind of a rich taste to them. Also I rewarded myself at the end of each week with a new CD or something that I would have otherwise spent the money on smokes.

Thing is that after even three or four years I would see someone light up a cigarette and I would think "Man, I could smoke the shit outta that Marlboro." Damn addiction is a funny thing.

Well, unless you can get pregnant....lol....that's the only way I was able to stop. It made me sick, I HAD to stop. Quit for a whole year, but now I'm smoking like a freight train again. *sigh* It's a mental thing. Just put them down. Don't pick them up. If you really want to quit, you will, but your mind has to want to. Mine doesn't. I gave up. I'm a smoker plain and simple. ROFL....some advice, huh?

Yeah loosing some one to there own habits, sucks. I recintly lost my dad to lung cancer. Yeah I quit a year before he found out his fate just, hoping that I don't follow too soon.
