UV sterilization?

Does or has anyone used the UV sterilizers like barbers use for their clippers, to help keep their machines clean? I was in a barber shop the other day and noticed this glowing blue light behind the barber, it looked like a toaster oven without a door. He explained it was a UV sterilizer for sanitizing electric clippers. It got my mind working, any ideas?

I bag mine and my clip cord to prevent contamination. Nightly wipe downs with green soap and they are good to go. Personally I never saw the need in my case.
