Hello,
I have a customer that every time she gets a tattoo it skabbs really bad.
The skin does not look over worked and the tattoo lookes great for a couple of days then it turns to a serious scab. Is it the afercare or the tattooing itself? What cream do you guys use for aftercare? :?: :D

Luberderm works fine. Anything as long as it's not vasoline or neosporin on color works. Perhaps she is taking hot showers/picking/etc.

Could be the actual tattooing; If you overwork an area, it will scab. If your needle's barbed, it'll scab. A good way to tell if it's you or her: watch the skin very closely as you tat...you will be able to see if you are just laying color or actually ripping skin.
Most artists will NOT agree, but I always tell them to allow the tat to remain dry the first couple of days; too much moisture will make it scab also. A well applied, well cared for tattoo should not scab at all, but merely flake away as dry skin. The amount of scabbing should dictate how much you lube it, I've noticed that people who lube up a good scab tend to get the ointment gooped up real good between the scabs, even if it was applied sparingly. This causes dirt and other things to stick, which is never good.

Hello,
It takes a couple of days before it scabs. This is what is so wierd. If it was within two or three days i would lean twards over working the skin. But is is about four to five days later. I don't get it :!: :!: :D

You didn't say too much about the appearance of the scab, but if its just this one particular client, is it possible her skin is having an allergic reaction to your brand of ink? I know this might be off base but its not impossible. This might explain why no other client is scabbing. I've also had a client who decided to use his girlfriend's scented "Lilac and Roses" or whatever b.s. body lotion instead of lubriderm as instructed. The resulting scabs from the infection were pretty ugly. I assume it was probably some perfume or dye in this lotion.
kinda sounds like she didnt take care of the tat !!
My husband's tattoos do this, he insists on keeping it well lotioned, and in his case this creates thicker scabs, He softens old scabs then it gets thicker and harder. Drives me nuts. But he has VERY sensitive skin, so maybe that's why he reacts that way.

Preacher it's not the after care, I don't think it is over worked skin.
I think it is the person themselves.
My body does the same thing. looks good for 4-5 days then I call the shit stage it scabs up for a week or so looks like hell. Then it clears up and looks great. This happens with every tattoo i have got. It is also worse in the summer. I will not ever get a tattoo in the summer. Lets say I lost count of how many tattoos I got. Well good luck
I know my tattoo aftercare I tried several different ways but in the end it will turn out the same way.

hey guys wuz up, I don't think it is overworked skin either because my fiancees tattoos that I have done scab thick like 1/4" but she takes care of them right. Everybody else I tattoo on has no problem just her. Because we all know if a client had a problem like that they would freak out and call you every day.

people have a nasty habit of lacing their tattoo with cream and making the scab mush up etc i always tell them to put very little cream and make sure its rubbed in not left on the top like lard . she may not be washing off the old cream before she slaps some more on either . whichever kind you use its best to be super thin . if she gets another tattoo ask her to try with NO cream just washing i know plenty of people who have success that way , at least it can breathe .

Power Bear got it. If your tattoo shines, 2 much ointment. Really thin coats, just enough to cover the tat.
