had to post this before i go to bed ! been getting more and more obsessed with machine tuning etc and was feeling pretty happy with the way things were going and then tonight my liner goes flat as a fart .... now it runs if i put the juice up but it was great at 7 volts now is weak as a kitten . i dismantled it cleaned every inch then stuck it back together and no different . could it be just the springs worn ? i havent got any new springs to try till i can get sent for some and i know the suspence will kill me . apart from the springs all i can think of is coils or capacitor but have never had to renew either so i dont even know if they can do that or wether the machine just stops if they are caput . anyway its a mickey sharpz brass microdial and im gonna try to get to sleep by thinking of how shiney the frame is now that its had a spring clean .
any and all advice appreciated

Make sure the armature bar is centered over the coils. Also test your clip cord with a different machine to see if the problem is there.

Hello,
Make sure that the needle is not rubbing on the tube. Follow what Papa Gee said. Check the clip cord for proper connection and its not burt or buldgeing. :D

Papa Gee is dead on... The first thing to check is your clip cord. But if that's not it...

Your lugs could be touching the frame and shorting the circuit. Sometimes you can't see it. Make sure your insulating washers are not cracked or warped.

If it runs when you turn up the power try pulling the rubberbands up off the needlebar and test it... It if runs okay that way then you may need to run an emery board over the tip of your contact screw. If your spring has pits from the contact screw, you might want to hit it with a file or emery board too...

Preacher is right on with the needlebar too... with the needlebar and tube on the machine, loosen your back spring and adjust the position so that the needlebar is centered left and right and just above center (up and down) of the tube. You want the needle-bar to be as close to perfectly center of the tube with your rubberbands on. If your needlebar is rubbing against the inside of the tube, not only will it take more power to run but ink will ride back up into your tube which is a bitch to clean up. (I had to cut the heat-shrink off a set of coils once to clean out some green ink! lol I've still got the pants to prove how much of a mess it can be.)

If none of that works... Break it down again and take a pencil eraser to your lugs to make them shine... Sometimes they get a thin film build-up and don't conduct well.

Hope this helps and gets you back to working.

thanks for the replies fellas :D im off to try a few things in a mo .. the clipcords ok i tried that on another machine , it ran bad even with no needle bar attached ( but sped up when i took off the rubber o ring ) , armature bar i sanded flat as can be ( but probably need a new one anway its been on over a year ) , sanded the pits on the spring with the help of my wifes nail file i knicked months ago lol ,never even thought about lugs tho so ill have a good look at them ....... ill let you know the outcome .
