Here's something some of y'all might be able to use. I quit using the ink cap holder that came with my original kit a while back. I saw that it was a CC hazard to reuse it without sterilizing it after every use. Just a little cheap plastic thing with some holes in it. But it got ink all over it every time I used it. So I tossed it.
I was just sitting my caps on the glass surface and working out of them but I kept spilling my ink while doing a tattoo. So I got myself a roll of 1" masking tape. Now when I setup I tear off a piece about 10'' long and stick about three inches to the table then fold it over and stick about three inches of the other end to the table. So that the sticky side is facing up. Then I take my ink caps and press them down on it. They dont get knocked over anymore and I just pull the whole thing and toss it when I'm done.

I use the vasoline trick too... I spread a thin layer on a small paper plate (about the size of a teacup saucer) so if I do spill a little ink, it doesn't go everywhere.

Hey, I know everyone already said this but the artist I usually see will use a tongue depresser to pull his vasaline from the jar, leave it on the end of the depresser, lay the depresser on a dental bib, then on the clean end of the depresser stick the caps to it with a dab of the vasaline. Put all your ink caps in a cute little row on the depresser :)

I used the vaseline trick and works great when your making house calls and forgot your capholder. I have also disposable plates and poked holes with pencil not no bigger than your ink caps and also write on them so you won't forget which one is your black or your wash-out black. When your done throw the whole thing away

Hey guys I use a piece of saran wrap for a barrier then i get a goop of vaseline out with a tounge depressor, and then i wipe a little bit on each cap and tack it to the saran wrap. When done I throw it all away. BTW mist greensoap on the table first so the saran wrap will stick.

I have a plexiglass cap holder that I purchased but plan on using vaseline instead since I don't have a autoclave yet.

Yea, me too. Originally it sounded like a good item but after reading threads here I decided it was just another link in the 'infectious chain' that I didn't need...

like most everyone here, I use the vasaline dab on the bottom of the ink cap. If you want to take it one step further, My mentor didn't even use ink caps. He would take those single serving cups from Mcdonalds that you would squirt your catchup into, flip it upside down and indent the bottom. Of course, you would have to have an inside connection in your local mcdonalds so as to get a supply of them still in the packaging.

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't want to take ink from a paper serving utensil.
1 not a trust worthy clean area
2 the ink will start to float the paper particals into the ink then into your skin.
3 the chemical processes that go into the paper..
4. is he realy that f cheap?
they are so cheap 100 for 5.00?
Just my two cents. but eww......no way

Taking soufflé cups from McDonald's (or any food establishment) isn't very aseptic...
I'd buy a pkg for $5.00 personally to be safe...
Aseptic:
a. Not liable to putrefaction; nonputrescent.
free from pathogenic microorganisms; sterile; as, aseptic operating conditions.
n.
An aseptic substance.

well the place where i got my first tattoo the guy actually used the throw away lids from fast food joint cups. he just turned them over so that the little push-in things were concave. not sure how great this was for a sterile setup but that is what he did and still does for that matter.

I hear ya battle. I personally don't use the souffle cups. I think that just comes out of habit for him. He learned alot of old school stuff. Cut corners where ya can without cross contaminating.

I agree the Vaseline on the folded paper towel works great. Ive noticed too that if you accidently bottom out your needle in the cap that the folded up paper towel and glob of vaseline has some bounce and is less likey to bend a needle tip like a traditional holder that holds the cap tightly.

i know your kidding but others might want to know .....
i do the tub of A&D thing now , so i take a tongue depressor , and scoop out a nice amount (1' 1/2 high) and smear it on the plate .
rather have too much than not enough , less chance of C.C. , (having to go back and put more on the plate !!!)
