Howdy All! So, Paolini machines... yes, they can definitely win a beauty pageant .. but how do they actually run? Has anyone ever laid down some ink with his machines? Just wanted to see if anyone had any info, experience, or stories about them. If I buy one and worse comes to worse.. atleast I'll have the coolest, most expensive paperweight in the office right?

Thanks!

You're right, they are pretty machines. I have no experience with them but I do know that being a european make they are made with metric screws and such. I have two machines built in Canada and I had to find and buy allen wrenches to fit them in order to adjust and maintain them. It's not that the metric tools were hard to find but they were in odd sizes which created a bit of a challenge.

If you ever wanted to recoil the Paolini's you would either need new screws for the coil cores or metric sized replacement coils.

I have a paolini "borneo rose" and it runs very smooth, The metric thing is annoying having to keep 2 sets of tools, but no more than working on a car today( you know half standard half metric on one part.) I don't know if it is just mine, but my paolini doesn't like disposable tubes, they seem a little short for the chuck and feel like they upset the balance of the machine making it back heavy, stainless tubes seem to fit the chuck better and balance the machine out better.

Gremlin, Gee, Thanks for the info! Paolini machines are way too beautiful to use disposable tubes with anyway...

Here's an actual machine tweek question.. that perhaps someone can lend some insight? I've recently acquired a 3 piece stainless steel frame. (thing weights a ton but i like it that way) I've slapped on 4 pairs of coils ranging from 8 to 12 wrap. I cannot get it to run properly if my life depended on it. Set it as a liner and both a shader.. I've tried soft springs, stiff springs, various gap settings, changing the A bar.. the only time it will run is if my rheostat is cranked to the max.. I've got a spark that can turn night into day and shock the living hell out of me if I touch either of the posts. (keep in mind all the coils I've tried work perfectly fine on my other frames)
Any help will be much appreciated.

Rock!

Change the capacitor....You should have very minimal sparking...Also is it a brass or aluminum machine? If so, Is the yoke installed?

Thanks for the quick reply Chopper! I thought about changing the cap. until I put the coils on another frame. Coils work completely trouble free and I have minimal to no visible spark at all. 4 pairs of coils, they all run fine on other frames just not this one.. really frustrating. The frame is all stainless steel, no yoke installed.

If it is actually a stainless frame not iron you still may have to use a yoke. I have seen some stainless machined frames that wouldn't run correctly without a yoke installed.
