I've always used rounds for large fill work. I have a session scheduled this weekend for a large tribal back piece. I ordered some magnums and was curious what the bes method for filling large areas. Do I just hse them like rounds? Or do most of you guys still just use rounds too?
Appreciate the info,
Thew

Mags dude, definitely. much faster coverage than using rounds. work in small circles and wipe often to check coverage and make sure you aren't overworking the skin. If all else fails and you don't feel comfortable with it you can always switch back to a round.

i vote mags and here's a neat trick to check your work
spray distilled water on the areas that you filled in and you can see the areas you missed better, sort of like a magnifing glass effect.

Depends on how big the piece actually is sometimes you can get better coverage out of a 5 or 7 mag than with a 13 , but if its a huge piece i'd definately say 13mag or bigger, than you can go back and tighten shit up w/ a 5 mag , like capt. said check constantly and use small consecutive circles , good luck !!!

Well my client will be in tommorow morning when my shop opens @ 11:00. Gonna give the mag a shot. I'll let you know what I think. They shre look intimidating, but I'm trying to learn more and more new school tricks everyday. Two years ago, I'd have turned down a large tribal piece. But nowadays, you deff have to learn to adapt. Thanks for the advice.

Hey Thew. I use rounds too and have done heaps of tribal black with them. If there is a lot of solid black, you will get better coverage with a mag. Maybe first couple of times, do the tribal outline as you would with the rounds and fill any tight corners first leaving some room to move inside the piece and just use the mag as a "filler". You can watch your needles then without being distracted by the design. Just an opinion.
My advice is to keep it real wet. They put in black faster than the round so dip your black a lot more. Good luck.

Well, I just finished, our first session. I have to say, the mag worked great, Not as fast as I'd hoped, but much quicker than using a round. A triple stack would be cool, maybe help cover a little more a little faster. But over all I cast my vote towards the mag for any large fill work. Thanks to you all for the advice.

personally I've never heard of a triple stack , but i know you have to be very carefull when using a double stack , they'll slice somebody open if your not paying attention !!

I've never heard of a triple stack either, but thought it sounded cool. I'm sure someone has made one b-4.

I got a lil question...What's really the purpose for anything larger than a 15 mag? I have a pair of 39s I keep crossed and mounted in a frame I use as decor by the door. It's a giggle when someone comes in for their first one, see that, and swallow hard.
So, aside from filling up an entire limb with color, has anyone used one for anything at all?

if someone wants a huge piece , you're better off using a larger mag , remember it's about spending the least amount of time possible in the skin people !!!!! plus when doing the bigger pieces you'll get a smoother effect & better blend w/ one of the larger mags . i've used 13s , 15s and 23s , just make sure you pay attention people , the big boys can hurt someone !!! ....and you're better off using a 12 wrap coil to push those bad boys !!!!! :D , and i'd like to take back what i said about triple stacks , since i posted that i've done some research on large mag.s and Brandon Bond said he uses 45 mags ....3 sets of 15s !!!!!!! !!!!!
