I recently aquired a bottle of Dettol. Stuff smells like Pinesol. I mixed about a 50/50 soloution of distilled water and Dettol. The mixture turned a frothy white and apparently is gonna stay that way. Oh yeah! It also is making me sneeze uncontrollably. I plan to try it for stencil application here in a bit if I can stop sneezing.
The Dettol VS Green Soap is that it seems to be used for the same purposes. Cleaning and disinfecting minor cuts and scrapes. I'm just wondering if I've got two products that perform the same functions.

I use the green soap diluted for spray for wiping and washing the skin while I am tattooing.
For the transfer I use the detol striaght up. Just apply it to the skin and let it set a bit before applying the transfer (if it's to wet it can smear the transfer big time).
They both have antiseptic properties but as a transfer solution I find the detol is a bit more economical when you use it straight. (at least where I get miine anyway)

you should use the dettol neat . the stencil will stick for ages plenty of time to get the outline done

I can't compare either. :? I have tried to find green soap as our tattoo suppliers don't sell it ( Hibiclens). So I go to the chemist and they look at me cross eyed and say "No sir but we have some nice yellow or blue soap" Does it go under another name?? Maybe theres a distributer "Down Under" ???

I have the exact same problem with dettol. I always sneeze after applying the stencil. Dettol is some strong shit.. :D
I use dettol straight for stencils, you only need a splash...it does do the same as green soap minus the alcohol.

Hey XHAZE, have you tried some local medical supply places for green soap? They could possibly have it. [/quote]

No i haven't. I normally buy my hygiene stuff from First Aid suppliers. I chased it a few years ago but they didn't know what I was talking about so I used products which i guess are similar. Since being on the forum, green soap comes up all the time. I gotta try it!!! . Tinctures a good start but what am i looking for? Is it a bar, paste, liquid? I use the "microshield" products.

Greensoap used to be used as a surgucal scrub in hospitals before Betadine scrubs became the standard. It's really nothing more than a liquid soap mixed with alcohol and a little lavender oil. I belive the recipe is soap at 65% alcohol at 30% and lavender oil at 5%.
I buy mine from a tattoo supply house at about 14.00 a gallon. I normally use it cut down to a 2 parts distilled water to one part green soap.
The pharmacist orders it for me, I get a 24 oz bottle for 7.00. Not great but no shipping fees. I cut it 1 part green soap 2 parts water, and it lasts a while.

Last night I had a chance to put Dettol to the test. I must say that it does work better than green soap for applying stencils.

OFF TOPIC, but welcome to the forum PUSHININK99.
PAPA GEE, I just ordered a bottle friday, did you use it striaght, or did you dilute it. I'm planning to use it on a big piece next weekend.

I used it mixed 50/50 with distilled water. The weird thing is that when I put it onto the guys skin, it looked dry in about three seconds. Like I hadnt put anything there at all. But when I laid down my stencil paper I could see that it was wet. Paper laid down and the stencil took nicely. I waited about 15 minutes to check it and it was on for the duration.
As stinky as that stuff is, I'm sure I'll be adding it to my supplies list in the future.

It works best when you use it from the bottle. What i do to save on paper towels and dettol, is put it in a spray bottle and give it a good mist spray. Just don't add water, i had mixing problems before and it's so cheap when you use a spray bottle.
And popa, I posted this before somewhere but you can find the 24oz bottle of Dettol for 9 bucks at kingpintattoosupply.com

I never dilute. Just spray on to paper towel , rub on skin.. it last a long time since you dont use it for anthing but applying stencils. i have bought it from kingpin(they have decent machines as well)but i think last order was from technical since they let me buy it by the case...lol i always buy in bulk..I do know people who dilute it but i guess different strokes fordifferent folks.
