To disinfect the skin prior to Tattooing, my Tattooist uses Isopropyl Alcohol in a squuzy bottle, I asked him what he mixes it with and he says distilled water, 60% alcohol, 40% water. Can the Isopropyl Alcohol be purchased over the counter and is the distilled water a special sterile distilled water or does it need further treatment. This is apparently a practice used in the UK, not sure about other countries. Also which may be of interest, when you need to clean the Tattooed area to remove excess ink and mess etc, what do you use in the UK, two different Tattooists in two different parts of the country have both told me anti bacterial fairy liquid, 40% fairy liquid, 60% water ( distilled ? ) I currently use Alcotip Swab which contain 70% Isopropyl Alcohol, but they are so small I find that I can not hold them. Any one care to share any tips or what they use.

It's also known as rubbing alcohol, and can be purchased at any drugstore. as for the antiseptic soap I use green soap, in the UK a lot of guys seem to use Dettol. Good luck. PS distilled water is just plain old distilled water.

Same as Thew.. I use small alcohol pads to clean the area.. hose it down with a lot of green soap then shave the jungle. (I've always thought is was funny being called green soap when it's actually yellow.. the kind of yellow you piss out the next day after a long night of drinking.. maybe it's just me)

I'm glad I'm not the only one that wondered if I was going colour blind when I looked at the green soap and wondered if it was my eyes or if it was really kind of a piss yellow. lol even one of the pharmisists here said he didnt know why it was called green soap cause it was yellow

I belive that tincture of green soap is much closer to a green color before its mixed with alcohol and lavender oil.

Over the counter rubbing alcohol is 70/30 already.
The stuff behind the pharmacists is 90/10

It will probably be better and easier for me to use Tincture of green soap, available in my new DTS catologue that arrived this morning as I understand it already contains alcohol. Does it still need mixing with distilled water, and if so which one, purified, sterile or distilled.

The machines actually aren't that bad priced compared to the £40 bargains off e bay of sub standard quality. I intend to purchase a couple of Glnn Flew machines, my Tattooist put me on to them and they seem very good.

Yes , greensoap should be cut w/ distilled water , I do about a 70/30 mixture :70% distilled water -30% G.S ( and thats pretty strong ). .. thats for cleaning up the client , if you want to use it for applying stencils , go stronger on the G.S. ,I'd keep the stencil mixture seperate from the client mixture , cause it has a tendency to get a little stingy !!!

nope it's yellow too. (at least the stuff I have is)
I use tincture of green soap and mix it 10:1 with distilled water. (10 water 1 gs) it might cost a bit more but it lasts a long time.

If you use GS. Cleaning: Low solution ratio. Less irritaing. 10-20% soap/water.
Stencil: 70-80% GS.
