I did a small shamrock on a guy friends back, and I used a 3 round shader to fill (because it's really small), after starting to fill it in with greens, it started to bleed a little bit, and really just a little bit here and there, and his pores seemed huge. Will the color stay? I have heard if a tattoo bleeds, the ink won't hold, is this true? I was running my shader at like 4-5 volts and I didn't go over any spots excessively or anything, so his skin wasn't getting chewed. Where am I going wrong? Oh how I admire all you true tattoo artists! What an art to learn, especially on your own from home. This forum is heaven sent, for me anyways! any suggestions would be great :o)

Hey Miss D! I wouldn't worry about it too much. I haven't had any healing problems with bleeders. I've also seen the swollen pores. Didn't have a problem w/ healing either. I think it's just different people and different skin types. If the area starts to turn into funky colors a week or two later then that's a different story..

MissDisaster, you might want to stay away from filling w/ a 3 liner , try some 5-round SHADERS or some 8-round SHADERS for the smaller pieces , less trauma to the skin ,and you'll be done a whole lot quicker too !!I was taught to spend the least time possible in the skin and everyone has they're own techniques, I'm sure everyone knows this but just in case......when i get a call from someone about an appointment , ,I let them know that drinking the night before is'nt recommended , or if they take alot of aspirin ..to cut back a few days before they come in , both of these will thin the blood . If they really start to bleed (which is rare ) I'll stop and have them come back to finish . I'd rather do that than to have a fucked up tattoo out there , the clients seem to respect that too !!

Thats a fact Forgiven! you hit that right on the head man. I personally use mags for coloring and shading, unless I'm working on a super small area, then I whip out the rounds. The rounds will push a little easier than the mags as well, so keep a close eye on the skin and the machine speed. Hand speed Vs. Machine speed is crucial. On "the bleeder" note. My brother has been on the recieving end of my machine quite a bit and he is diabetic, not to mention he's quite a bleeder. I do my best to get that ink in there in a couple passes and if he bleeds out, I'll stop.
Also, I will wait to wipe until I have covered quite a bit, it may bleed a bit but thats normal, I mean we are sticking needles into the skin. Constant wiping on top of the skin trauma will only iritate the area, so like Forgiven said, try to spend as little time as possible in the skin. Sometimes I will place a paper towel on the areas that I have already done, and rest my hand there as not to irritate it further. It's a client by client basis. I also read in a previous post that eating some Jello a little while before they come in( if they can't stay away from the alcohol) will help thicken the blood a bit.

three needles is three needles, ..... liner /shader it doesnt matter ...too much time in the skin is too much... period .

one of my clients is a bleeder, usually doing the tats starts out fine then about 20 minutes into it he starts bleeding and its like water makes it a pain in the ass to get the ink in, i just have him come back in when it heals and go over it again, i work on my self and have had a few spots that bleed but the ink stays in after it heals up.
