I just got a Iron strong man I read here its good to for lining and shading right out of the box I'm practicing mostly polynesian designs so black filling in should be considered as shading right?

Yes. Coloring and shading are basically the same operation. However with an area that needs solid color you want to keep your needles moving in a slow, small circular motion. Where as with shading you would normally use a larger circular motion with a faster stroke. Also for solid color you might want the needle to hit a little harder than if you were shading.

needle to hit a little harder what do you mean? power up more?
Thanks

Yes, normally you want to shade at a lower voltage setting (softer hit) to get a build up effect. For solid color you want to fill the area as quickly as possible with the least amount of trauma to the skin. Set your PS to a higher voltage for a harder hitting needle.
