Relax and breath is my best suggestion, don't try to get too worked up on the shaking the more you think about shaking the more you'll shake.
A steady hand will come, you just need so to say is reprogram your mind to steady your hand

Take a minute before you start ...say a prayer to whoever or whatever it is you pray to , take a deep breath , and run with it .....it will go away after the first 100 or so tattoos

Eat a candy bar or a sandwich. No really. Sometimes I get so busy during the day that I forget to eat. As a result my hands get shaky and I find I'm not very patient with most situations.

I get like that too shakey sometimes, othertimes rock steady. usually i get shakey when my blood sugar is out of whack. so first i check it on the meter, then take appropriate action....insulin, eat someting, call an ambulance before i go into a diabetic coma...lol :?

the one good thing about tattooing is that if you shake like you do at times
you can collect yourself and go back over the area and try to straighten it out. you have that artistic power to correct your mistakes or nervousness.
you can always straighten out lines by building them out or in berfore you shade and by the time you shade you should have all that nervousness out of you.
if you can't shake the shakes then it will hurt you and then people will be less prone to let you tattoo them. it's all a state of mind, be in that stae of mind before you start.
relax bro, set your mind free and ya ass will follow, dig?

Just take deep breaths, focus, and try to look at the tattoo as a whole not just the line you're working on. As Forgiven said, the more tattoos you do, you will learn to control this. Confidence has everything to do with this problem. Eating is also good, if it is'nt a nervous shake. When I used to get shaky, it was due to nerves.

I agree with the blood sugar and having something to eat. thats my biggest offender when I start to shake. I wouldnt say to much about the coffee thing though lol I shake if I dont get enough of it in the morning, but thats just me. (OK I've had a couple of customers I wont deal with until after I have plenty of coffee either but you get those in any business)

also make sure that the grip is a comfortable size for your fingers to hold or youll be prone to shaking and hand cramps. and make sure you dont have a death grip on the machine should be a relaxed grip so your movement will be fluid.

Very true, you need to be comfortable to be confident.

I am going to be serious for once , if you are shaking and its not from fear, please go get checked out. I just found out 2 weeks ago I am a diabetic and realized when i would get shaky it was directly connected to my bloodsugar being low. now that my bloodsugar is more controlled (not quite there yet) im a lot more steady even with my off hand.... Yes im trying to teach myself to tattoo left handed as well. if along with the shaking you have any of the following symptoms, go get checked out.....
fast heartbeat
sweating
dizziness
anxiousness
extreme hunger
impaired vision
weakness/ fatigue
headache
irritability
these are signs of hypoglycemia(low blood sugar) it is caused by too little food, too much insulin in the system, or too much activity. Its onset is sudden and can lead to insulin shock!

all these other post are really good and hopefully can help one out with the shakes.Over time you will be more relaxed. As for myself i find that the better position you have your customer in the more relaxed you will both be.Depending on placement of tattoo,i have found that laying them down and having more area to set up your bridge[your hand holding machine with fingers and palm resting on the person]the better.I have a small hospital type bed with the clean covering[plastic]that can rise or lower and some other movements.,anyway i lay them down most of time and things really go alot smoother and more comfortable for the both of us.no shaking
