do you mean diamond tip? or the shovel tips?
to me it sounds silly to use a diamond tip for a mag. it doesnt make any sense at all to me. ive never seen it done or heard of it being done that way. but that doesnt mean it cant be done or done well.
and also, ive found through my experiences that its much easier to ridw the tube when using a mag. but thats just me.
i dont see any reason not to do it the way you have been if you are comfortable with it.
hope that helped out.

I use both, seeing the needle is tough in any situation. It just takes practice, and knowing your machine. When usine mags you spit so much ink it's tough to see the needle in any case. A trick that was taught to me to gauge the needle is after you get your needle set in your machine, hold your machine up to a TV screen or computer monitor, give it power and you can see the movement of your needle in slow motion. seeing this will give you a feel as to where your needle is moving in relationship to the tube tip. This is good for use with mags because you cant always see the needle through the ink, but you can see the tip in relation to the skin. your still riding the needle, but with a little more sense of where it's penetrating.
