looks like a 5rl, unless he or she used a t7. he or she could have also used a 5mag to line with but only if they're that good.
with out the original photo being put on photoshop that's my guess.
that's my take on it

I've been practicing with a 5RL and its thinner than the lines on this pic
could it be 8RL or 9RL? what is a t7?

hey big buck, like i said without the original photo and photoshop i can't tell if the lines were doubled or what needle size. 72 dpi resolution really isn't that great, once you blow the picture up at that resolution the photo distorts.
it's possible the person may have used an 8rl and a T7 is a tight seven
needles which may be bigger than a 5rl but slightly bigger because of it's tight groupings.
it depends also on hand speed and amount of machine speed that would make a difference in laying down the outline.
i used a 5rl just the other day on it laid a bigger line than the pic you posted.
can't tell you much more than that my man.
hope this clarifies my first response.

Looks like a 5rl to me. Probably doubled up the outline on the outer edges. That leaves a better staying outline than using say a 9rl.

I used to. I don't recomend it, leaves blank lines. You have to keep going over them.

Cuz there spread. There was always a space the needle wouldn't hit.

I've lined with 5 and 7 magnums. Gets that multiple type needle size effect. Works pretty good. Use it mostly on big new school.

I use a 5rl but on occasions have used a 9rl but also guys what ive noticed is that it can come down to what ink your using to outline with as some lay down better than others ie try a basic ink and then say kuro sumi no contest

Its a mix of design from the part of the world that I live in. The swirls in the design are "koru' which is the fern leaf unfolding. Among other things it represents new life.

Thanks guys for all your great info I thought i ask cause i've been practicing with a 5RL on pig skin an the line was very skinny?not as thick as you guys say.Could it be my volts are to low?or the ink? I have kuro sumi but I was using the talons bottle one I got the kit what do you guys think?.
and XHAZE yes that is a Maori koru design with some marquesian and samoan art as well.

THANKS

I dont know much ,but I seriously doubt that was lined w/ a 5 anything I posted a pic in the "crappy forum " thread and that was lined w/ a tight 14 the lines in that maori piece are nice and smooth , its pretty tricky to get that w /a 5 , I'm not saying it cant be done but it would probaly take forever !!!! ( the tips look real crisp , maybe a tighter configuration there ), but like I said I dont know nuch !!!!

Thanks FORGIVEN YeaH I kinda Thought it probably was bigger than a 5RL cause the one I'm practicing with is real skinny must be a tight 5RL?
its good though just thin I thought I ask first before I buy more needles.Anyone of you out there have samples of line thicknesses like how thick is a 8RL,9RL,14RL...... so one can look what needle set to buy?

Buck :)

MY ADVICE WOULD BE TO ORDER 10 OF EACH AND FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF BECAUSE EVERYBODY WORKS DIFFERENTLY , DIFFERENT PRESSURE WILL GIVE YOU DIFFERENT LINES , BY GETTING TEN OF EACH YOU CAN DECIDE WHICH YOU LIKE BETTER THEN ORDER MORE , PLUS YOU WILL STILL HAVE SOME ON HAND , HOPE THAT HELPS !!!!
