Polarity Question

Broke out the Multimeter and just messing around check hertz and and to see if my P/S meter was right. And found that the polarity on the Clip Cord is wrong Red=Neg and Black=Pos.
Now if I'm right the lower rear stand off that the coil/capaciter wire connects is a POS. connection or am I wrong?
and that magnetic field dosen't care where pos/neg. are as long as it get the voltage, just wondering more or less is there a possability this might have damaged the capaciter?

no you are not wrong red is pos and it goes to the bottom post
now i hope i have got this bit right if not im sure the guys will correct me so here goes.
we use Electrolytic capacitors which are polarised so they have to be the correct way round.
there are two types of caps which are used Axial which is where you get a lead out of each end of the cap and Radial which is where you get two leads out of the cap both at the same end.
both can be used on machines but they must be connected the right way around,there should be a + and- marked on each cap so you put them in line the correct way round.

the rear s/o should be pos. but not always! so check the cap to make sure wich is the pos side. hooking it up wrong will cause the cap to have a short life! :shock:

Thanks Guys......looking at the capaciter it looks to be Bi-polar, but after finding out the cord was wired wrong I re-shink tube the leads and going to order new capaciter just for shits and giggles and replace the old ones.

check the arrows on the caps! (positive---->negitive)
the crimped side is the poitive side! :wink:

or use capacitors that can be wired either way.........usually in electrical suppliers
