I know your not suppose to use 1, but what if you do and the color on the bag does change??? It says the if the arrow turns brown then it's sterilized.
So if a pressure cooker can turn it brown, then it's sterile....right???

Maybe....maybe not. Can you for 100&% sure verify that your pressure cooker maintained 275 degrees for 30 minutes? Did you purge the first head of steam to create a vacumn? Did you bag then sterilize or did you sterilize then bag? Has your pressure cooker been spore tested? If so what were the results.
A pressure cooker is not an autoclave. It can be used as one if it's done properly. But if you're not 100% sure that you've sucessfully sterilized an instrument then you have to assume on the safe side that it's not.

I'm just asking...if i BAG then put them in and after i'm done the arrow turns brown. The arrow is only suppose to turn brown if it's sterile, right.
So what i want to know is, is the arrow right or the striped tape for testing???

Well, the indicator is certainly sterile. That dosent mean that the instrument is. There is a lot more involved than just cooking your instruments in a bag with an indicator.
There is an overall approach that must be done correctly to insure true sterilization of an instrument. You could boil the piss out of it and it MIGHT be sterile but you have no way to verify.
Sterilization starts with disassembling your tubes, soaking them in an ultrasonic cleaner with the proper soloution. Scrubbing the tubes and tips to remove any caked on ink or blood then running them through a cycle in an autoclave that has been spore tested and passed with the bag and indicator. If these procedures are done correctly and the arrow turns brown then yes you have successfluuy sterilized your equipment.

Well i'm going to test a pressure cooker and i'll let you guys know. It was just an idea i had. I'll still use my teachers autoclave, just cuz i'm sure about that and it's easier.
Thanx for the feed back.

You should be OK if you are "cooking" needle groups that you have made yourself and are first and single use. Nothing else.

yes Given very good points there are no jokes when it comes down to this.
lets face it if pressure cookers worked then all the clave manufacturers would be out of business
remember STERILIZATION -STERILIZATION-STERILIZATION
THERE ARE NO SECOND CHANCES WITH SOMEONES SKIN AND HEALTH

I just want to let you guys know that i'm not a noob. I know what i'm suppose to do and i do it. I was just asking cuz i see alot of peeps asking if it's okay and i just wanted to know if the arrow on the bags meant "It's Sterile". I have an apprenticeship and use an autoclave at the shop.
And yes you are right, this is no joke. People can get killed.

sorry pc not having a go at you
although you know, there might be a newbie to the trade reading and and thinking oh ill try that save myself a bit of money then all of a sudden there in a world of shit
hope you see where im comeing from
If you do use a pressure cooker/canner make sure you have atlest 17 pound of pressure, water boils at about 220 deg. & 17 pounds of pressure will make the watter & steam 275deg. but any thing less then 17 psi you can not be shure,& like the one dude said you first have to break you tubes down & scrub them, then you should definatly throw them in an Ultra sonic cleaner with distilled watter & add ultrasonic cleaner solution such as Alconox & the ratio is the same as green soap ratio 3 parts water 1 part Alconox. After that if you put it in a pressure cooker @ 17 psi for 30 to 47 minuits it will be steril.
But by all means you should not use a pressure cooker unless there is no option,If there is no auto clave availble or mine broke I would much rather do it this way then to not do it at all,I always use this as a good rule of thumb, dont do or use something on another that you would not use or do to your self.

those indicators on the packages only show's it reached proper temperature, not if its actually sterile. 1sec 1min who knows how long it was at the proper temperature. invest in something more involved then just a household pressure cooker.
