i scrub all my bits and pieces before putting into ultrasonic.

do all , take no chances :scrub , ultrasonic , cold sterilization , then autoclave

What i do is run some alcohol in the tubes then put them in the ultrasound, then scrub with tube brushes, then soak for 12 hours, then rinse with water, then autoclave them.

That's what my teacher has tought me. :D

i use the metricide 28,.. . plus an autoclave..and its NOT AN ALTERNATIVE !!!!!!!just an extra pre-caution !!! TTS is wrong in saying that !! USE DISPOSABLES IF YOU DONT HAVE AN AUTOCLAVE !!! I'm just curious Forgiven - can you share your sterilization expertise with the 75% of the board as to WHY it IS that autoclave sterilization is considered THE best method? Just what IS it about an autoclave that makes it THE best method? (I know the answer - I want to see if you know it as much about all of this as you seem to boast...

I have done some inquiring on this heated debate over the use of COLD STERILIZATION and AUTOCLAVE STERILIZATION...

I have found out that FORGIVEN was correct and I WAS WRONG.

Despite what anyone says, posts, supply house's statements for COLD STERILIZATION products - the ONLY approved method today of COMPLETE and DEPENDABLE STERILIZATION is thru the use of an AUTOCLAVE.

Cold chemical products DO NOT fully and dependably STERILIZE. They may DISINFECT - but they DO NOT STERILIZE.

Any claims that anyone makes, refers to, or insinuates about COLD CHEMICAL products are NOT to be taken to heart.

While COLD CHEMICALS DO Disinfect - they DO NOT FULLY STERILIZE needles and tubes FULLY - at least for our purposes of TATTOOING, PIERCING, etc.

So Forgiven - I offer a full and unconditional APOLOGY that I (despite my nursing education) was INCORRECT in my understanding of COLD CHEMICAL use and employment - and I also apologize to other members on this Forum as well if I have misled or misinformed you of such.

AGAIN - I offer a full APOLOGY for being a Smart Ass and not knowing what I was talking about.

SO PLEASE - Everyone on this board - newcomers, aspiring artists, old artists as well - these guys DO know what they ARE talking about. And Medical training IS NOT a SUBSTITUTE - no matter what you hear or think you know - for the EXPERIENCE and WISDOM of many of these members on this forum with years of experience.

Disposable tubes and pre_made needles are NOT sterilized in a steam autoclave. They are sterilized with EO gas. Thats some toxic and nasty stuff from what I've read.

There's a company called Wisconsin Aluminum. They make the biggest and baddest canner/pressure cookers out there. You can get a 40 qt unit for under $130.00 USD. They claim it will hold 20 PSI at 295 degrees for about 15 minutes after you turn off the heat source. Very thick aluminum walls.

It's as basic and barebones an autoclave you could ever ask for. But i's cheap and really really works.

listen im not trying to be a jack ass , i could be wrong ....but i dont think theres a way to check if these pressure cookers REALLY work , so please people , save your money and get a autoclave thats meant for the purpose we need it for !!! I think framey posted to put a sterilization bag in the oven and see what happens ....the BAG WILL CHANGE COLOR BUT DO WE KNOW THAT THE EQUIPMENT IS STERILE ??? FOR SURE ??? NO SHORTCUTS !!!

Yeah, good points. Maybe the paper will and does change color - but can we be SURE the pressure cooker really STAYED at 15 psi and 121 Degree Celsius the ENTIRE time? I doubt it...

Think I'll just scrap that idea and start saving for an autoclave and accept that there just aren't any GOOD alternatives to an AUTOCLAVE.
