When tuning the machine should the Armature Bar touch the tops of both coils when in the down position?

No should be around 1/16 from the rear part of the armature bar to the rear coil and 3/16 from the front of the armature bar to the front coil this give or take a little.

Yup,
Thats what I'm asking. SHOULD it be THAT way OR should BOTH be touching the armature bar when in the DOWN position?

When the armature bar is making contact with the front coil there should be a gap between the rear coil and the bar. I've been told that the gap shopuld be about the width of a rolling paper folded twice. Or a sheet of copy paper folded once.

I have heard the same thing from a tattoo-artist here in Sweden!

if the a-bar hits the rear coil while it's running the machine will freeze, at least mine did. I had a rear spring that got week and thats what happened to me (ok so I had the machine set a bit close too)

you know , sometimes if you look at your coils, you'll notice that the front may have a thicker spacing washer than the rear or other times if you take out a ruler you can see that the front and the rear coil shafts have a difference in hieght.
the rear must be shorter than the front or it will not work properly
these are the little things i've been talking about in other threads that you should look into, after all, you want to be tattooers, dont ya?

You want that gap in the back coil as most have said, now you'll either have shims under the front coil or the core with be abit longer than the rear.
