:?: someone wants me to do a lower back piece on them and they have epilepsy. I don't know if there are any risks involed with it. all the artists I know that have been around awhile have never done it.
i have no idea, but i wouldnt, most people i know who have epilepsy cant control the seizures and i dont think it would be a good idea, wouldnt be a pretty sight if they had a seizure while your tattooing them, but im sure someones else could shed some light on the subject.

my gut told me it wouldn't be a good idea. that would not be good. even if the condition is well maintained by meds you just never know. thanks

There are varying degrees of epilepsy. Left handedness is a mild form of it. As long as your client isnt exposed to conditions that might cause a seizure you shouldnt have any problem. (Flashing lights and such)Ask how often this person has seizures. If they are rare there's no reason you shouldnt work on them.
Even if the client did have a seizure while getting tattooed you could stop the procedure and let it pass. Seizures rarely last longer than about 5 to 10 minutes.

thanks for the insight papa. I guess people are afraid of the unknown. thats why I asked in the first place. I have to find out more about the degree of which she has it and when she had a siezure. thanks again. that's what I needed a voice of experience.

On the few tattoos I have done on people who have some kind of health issue I was nervous about, i.e. epilepsy, partial paralysis at the site to be tattooed, I just scheduled an appointment with them after they saw their doctor and came back with a note saying it was OK. I stapled a copy of the note to the release form and went to work.

I did a tatto on the ankle of a girl with epilepsy a couple of weeks ago
but she hadn't had a fit for 5 years and she had been given the all clear off the doc
so i think if your not sure what to do get the thumbs up from the doc

Does this person have seizures on a regular basis? Do they take medications to control the seizure activity? Also some people know when a seizure is coming on and does this person know when is it going to happen and what factors trigger the seizure? These are questions you are going to have to find out before you decide on tattooing this person.
