Ok this a question for Starmedic and LittleBear. Do both of you feel that a Tattoo Artist should be certified in CPR/AED & Basic Fisrt Aid? And why?
I know why but I dont want to say the wrong thing so I will leave it up to the you people in the medical feild.
I have had several newbies ask me I am not trying to be rude to anyone but I am not in the medical feild. Pluss I feel they should learn because of what happened in New York. May he go with God.

I think everyone should be familiar with the above listed subjects. The AED is idiot proof. If you work in an industry or field that deals with you workin on, modifying or altering someone's body, you should at least be familiar with Basic rescussitation skills in case whatever your doing to them causes an undesired reaction.

I think everyone should be certified in CPR/AED and basic first aid. The AED is very simple to use. Not only may something happen in your shop but also you may be the first one on the scene in another location and I would want someone to help me in I needed it and I am sure the same goes for all of you. I have a story to share with you all, This past July my former secretary was driving home from work and a group of kids ran out in front of her car screaming for help. The kids were swimming unsupervised and the 3 yr old fell in the pool. She stopped her car ran to the back yard and pulled the child out of the pool and started CPR. The child was taken to the nearest hospital, Life Flighted and went home after a couple of days. The child is fine. So you never know when you might be needed when situations arise.

I had to do my basic first aid a few years ago as a condition of my black belt in martial arts, the reason behind it was if someone got hurt while training we could handle the situation and it put parents at ease knowing that there children were in safe and capable hands. "I beat 'em up then make 'em better."

Touchy subject but in my opinion everyone should take at least a basic first aid course, not just those who may need it. The reality of it is that most of us that take these type of courses do so in hopes that we never need to use the information and techniques we learn in them but do so in the event that we may. I know there are those that have to keep the first aid and cpr courses up to date such as star and little bear but my opinion is that all of us should as well just in case (ok I'm a certified rescue diver as well so I have a bit more reason to keep it up) I know that the one or two times I have needed the things I learned in the first aid/cpr training I took I was damned glad I had taken them. It's a good feeling to know that you may have made a difference in whether some one lived or died or lessened the extent or repercussions of injuries.
