In the event of an autoclave failing a spore test...What is the procedure to return the unit to service?
Do you clean it with a germicidal cleaner and run it empty through several cycles then test again? Or do you throw the sucker out and replace it?

What if an autoclave fails?
If an autoclave fails to pass a biological indicator test, it is normal to take the autoclave "offline", that is, it is not used again until it either passes a second test, or is serviced to fix any problems their might be.
Why do autoclaves fail?
Occaionally an autoclave will fail to kill spores due to a broken seal or gasket, but most failures can be attributed to operator error. Common mistakes are not running the cycle for the proper time, not filling the autoclave properly, and other such oversights. This is the reason that most testing facilities will order a second test before ordering that the autoclave be serviced.
thats googled ;)
