Out of interest how do the home tattooists dispose of their waste such as blood / ink stained wipes and used needles. We know with a shop or licensed establishment you have to have an arrangement with a waste disposal company to collect the waste on a regular basis.

Im lucky enough to have a boss and boss' girlfriend who love ink. He provides me with any and all bio disposal gear I need. When Im done I bring the full containers into the shop here and add them to our company bio disposal bin which is picked up once a month.

I brought this question up about a year ago. I was concerned about the bio trash I was generating. With the exception of sharps, everything I generate gets tossed into the dumpster. It was pointed out to me that there's a lot worse being thrown away on a daily basis. And my bags are tied at the top to prevent scattering.
I have a sharps container thats almost full. So I'll be off to the hospital soon to dispose of properly.

All my sharps go into hospital grade sharps containers. I use the ones that leave an opening at the top with a half turn at the top and close again. When it is full you push down in the center of the lid and it locks shut . The hospital takes mine also. As I don't do piercing, my wipes, cups, wraps etc are classified as general waste rather than clinical waste so I can dispose of them in mainstream (general household) waste disposal. This waste must be in a sealed clear plastic bag.

I called into DTS this morning while in the area to pick up a few bits and bobs, I had never been in there before, the girl asked if I had purchased from them before, when I said no she said that they will not consider supplying to any new customer with out proof of correct procedure being in place for the disposal of waste (used tattoo needles, piercing needles, dressings or any other soft wastes) and a copy of your license to practice.
As I only wanted janitoral supplies they supplied me but i must produce proof next time. Just thought I would let you know.
im also from the uk,and i also purchase alot of my tattoo tools bits n bobs from the company you mentioned.i dont have a license too tattoo BUT,if you order online they dont even blink an eye,or ask for nothing exept payment.

carlI have received a letter from DTS this morning saying that they have now changed their policy on supplying. In future they want to see everyones tattooing or piercing licence so that they can keep a record on file for future sales, I think it was all due to a problem hi lited on Skin Deep recently.

So what you guys are saying is you can take Bio waste to your local hospital for disposal?? I have been wondering about this hurdle for a while. Do you have to do anything official? like get some kind of written authorisation?
I havent even maimed a grapefruit yet, but I want to get all the facts I can before I start any practical stuff.
