I currently run hooligan yellowjackets by Snake Yates personally very very happy with performance.

I just have been soaking away cash to pick up some new machines to play around with. and don't really feel comfortable just jumping online and ordering something. so consider this a research project..

I've heard of superior, cam, and a few other random names , but in my defense I am bombarded by new companies, ebay, and every websight for tattoo supplies makes thier own model so guys how bout some feedback

looking for light and reliable... also (Sienfeld)" and what is the deal with rotary tattoo machines?" I've heard they run smooth as hell as liners why aren't they more popular

please no suggestions for decorative machines they all weigh 5 lbs more then we would like

whats the hubbub, bub?
is this a test or are you trying to see who's the smartest or dumbest?
in your reference to side mount or centermount, are you refering to the placement of the coils? side by side or in a series?
as for the 12 wrap, more power to push big needles but you can get the same effect with a well built a ten wrap if you know how.
as for a single coil design, i started with a single coil unit, not bad but for small stuff, works well as a liner and light shader and colorer, if you know how to use it.
really don't give a rats ass about all those dragon, yingyang, maltese and whatever else design out there because all you really need to know is how to use a good machine and how to maintain it in working order.
brass units adds a good feel when using and it conducts electrical current well. also a matter of preference.
light weight units with aluminum frames are good for when your hands and arms are getting tired for tattooing for long periods of time, also a matter of preference.
if you got the money then you can afford the custom jobbies.
swingates are to make your life easier with your tubes.
dual springs or springs with contacts are also a matter of preference,
i prefer not to have contacts on my units and i've used both.
all that you asked is a matter of you having the money and time to expiriement on your machine to get them to give you a better working tool
to do your art with.
if you really want advice, buy a strong man or even a ironman and save yourself money buying fancy schmancy units, they are good work horses and have not let me down yet and that's what's the difference.

12 wrap make the machine more powerful on the whole ,its not a real rule but if you made 10 sets of coils with all the same componants and specs exept the wraps number, the higher the wrap the more powerful, theres a guy called bonkerk who makes a 17 wrap liner and a 22 and 28 wrap shader. depends on what sort of machine you want, what style you like, and i dont mean frame design and how much you have to spend i would go with PULSE and nothig else, my other choices would be PAOLINI, DANNY KNIGHT OR SOBA but thats me . PAOLINI DANNY KNIGHT AND SOBA are all great machine builders, ask anyone , but PULSE are in a league of there own, people on here will tell you paolini are good but dear and that you should look at needle jacks stuff, but i think needle jacks are good if you want a good machine thats not overly pricey and possibly someone will come along and reccomed DANNY FOWLER time machines, i personally dont like them, i dont like how they look atall but thats definately a personal opinion. unless you know exactly what you want dont bother with a custom unless you rich and i wouldnt reccomend buying from most supplies type machine sellers if you catch my drift, some sell good kit and good supplies, most dont, i think jaks is an exception but some suppliers sell machines as a sideline not a mainline. but PULSE just sell great everything as most of it is theyre own brand, there are always exeptions.as i said it depends what youre after, but if it were me go for PULSE you cant go wrong. the half coil makes the machine faster, like an 8 to a 12 wrap ie liners go fast shaders go slow. swingates are another type of tube vice for holding the tube in place, brass behaves differently, feels different, sucks up more vibration some think and is non magnetic so you need to put a piece of steel called a yoke under thecoils to complete the magnetic circuit. brass being non mabnetic therfore makes the machine behave differently to magnetic metal made machines. .....THEN... you have all the other types of machine, ones close to traditional and ones far from traditional. youu have machines like the BLACK LOTUS TWO which takes the drawn out machine adjustments and give them to you in a much easily tunable fashion, the superior vtek which instead of creating an up/down with an on/off switch on the machine it sends an alternating(a.c.)current instead of a direct(d.c.)current, this measns the current gooes on/off constantly instead of the machine doing it. the A.C. also allows you to shape the current from the power supply by adjusting its shape, which gives chages in machine speed and force. THEN you have the far from traditional machines, well at least in the way the lokk cos the A.C. vtek aint traditioonal but does look it. the rotary is a motor driven machine with a off set circle attached to make whats attached to it go up and down, people dont like em cos you cant really adjust anything on them, then youve got the swashdrive which uses a cam , like the cam on boat engines to make a plate go exactly up and down, again its a fancey rotary, expensive but apparently a good piece of machinery at least. you can even get a pneumatic tattoo machine driven on comperssed air but how it seems is that other than the black lotus which is still the closest to a traditional machine of any of these other types, none of them can match up to the thing the best tattooists worldwide use everyday. as far as the frame thing youll be hard pressed to find a good machine with a fancey frame design but saying that paolini does some good machines with more fancey frame and so do a few others, jaks does some but i casnt say ive tried them but on the whole some people try tome palm off bad machines by giving them fancey frames. oh yeah i almost forgot, MICKY SHARPZ, you can buy those machines from most countries in the world, they look good and work great, plus theyre made by a WELSHMAN

holy hell guys I couldn't have found better answers with 4 days on google search.. it seems that a huge percentage stems from budget.. it would seem that the machines don't have too much techinical difference. so in most cases unless you buy just a complete pyle of... well you know... then as long as you can set a machine up you can run smooth with just about anything..... I still like the concept behind a hand creator.. if lucky enough to find a good and friendly designer you can just communicate and request a machine designed for your own feel.... like Snake... I bought one of his ebay machines and he already looks forward to me sending it to him for mods. he' seems to be anxcious to upgrade and perormance tune my liner.... dunno if there is tricks up his sleeve or not but I trust the guy, just from IM chat he is readdy to fine tune and cost is still relative to mid level machine... thats basically why I posted in the first place.. if anyone can tell me a reason why a Snake Yates machine is a bad Idea then I may just have to exercise my loyalty and just invest in new Yates machines. so please has anyone ever run a Snake Yates machine and what is your opinion on it???? tanx best machine I've owned in the 100/150$$ range

Not that it matters here, but I have 3 work horses that are absolute pleasures to use, (1) Pulse Solution 12 wrap (shader), (1) Iron Strongman 10 wrap(shader), (1) Technical Sharps brass Dial 10 wrap(liner), I love everyone of these machines, The Solution is a smooth running but pretty expensive machine. The Iron Strongman is not far behind in the smooth running department, and the price is a real bargain!and the Technical Dial is a great liner for all groupings.

I got a few ( ) machines and lately I've been gravitating towards my ironstar and strongman for the smaller - meduim pieces (I'm not a needlejack salesman !!) , for the solid packing it's been the Pulse Solution , black & grey , my kingpin dial shader .

(i just realised , sorry about the capitols, its too much to write again)THERE IS A LOT OF TECHNICAL DIFFERENCE IN THE MACHINES, THAt is THE POINT, JUST COS TWO LINERS RUN SMOOTH DOSENT MEAN THEY RUN THE SAME, PULSE ARE VERY DIFFERENT TO ALL THE REST I THINK. NEXT GENERATION LOOK GOOD I THINK BRANDON BOND USED THEM BEFORE HE SWITCHED TO PULSE BUT MOST SUPPLIERS EITHER SELL MACHINES OR EVERYTHING ELSE , BUT IF THEY DO SELL GOOD MACHINES AND OTHER STUFF TOO THEY DONT NORMALLY SELL MUCH OTHER STUFF, BUT PULSE SELLS EVERTHING BAR AUTOCLAVES AND SOAPS ETC SO YOU CANT GO WRONG WITH ANYTHING THEY SELL PLUS THEYU SELL THE BEST FLASH AND BOOKS FROM ALL THE BEST ARTISTS, BOB TRYELL, BRANDON BOND, JOE CAPOBIANCO, ERIC MERRIL, JIME LITWALK ETC PLUS EVERYTHING THEY SELL HAS THEYRE OWN TOUCH TO IT.

AND YEAH, MICKEY SHARPZ SELLS MACHINES, HE MADE AND DESIGNED THEM UNTIL HE GOT SO BIG HE HAD TO GET OTHERS TO MAKE THEM FOR HIM, AND YES THE FACTORIES IN BIRMINGHAM BUT UNLIKE HIS OLD PARTNER MICKY BEE , HE STILL MAKES THE STUFF OR IS STILL VERY MUCH INVOLVED IN IT, MICKEY BEE ISNT AS INVOLVED ANYMORE I BELIEVE . MICKY SHARPZ WAS AT THE LONDON CONVENTION SELLING PROMOTING AND ANSWESRING QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS MACHINES.(I JUST REALIZED, SPORRY FOR THE CAPITOLS)

ITS NOT ALL ABOUT DOLLA, unless you want the same machine but with all the bells and whistles on it, like a limited addition version or something. i runz 1 soution 10 wrap and executive 8 wrap, and pandora 10 wrap and hsave got another 10 w solution and 8 wrap exec coming for chrimbo. i do have a black lotus 2 and paolini high tech sacro coure and paolini paul rogers but now i use pulse there seems no point chopping and changing but thre paolinis are nice to have for a change.

they all run different, think of it like cars.
