g'day I'm having problems with me machine heating up,I run it for lining and it has the standard 8 wrap coils .020 front and back springs, not sure of what capacitor it has as its original,I run the o-ring as well,i run it at about 6.5 volts,i have put a meter on it to try and tune it and its erratic it wont stay at a steady hertz, and duty cycle is to high also i cant get it under about 60%,it seems to run way to fast and changing voltage doesn't seem to make a difference,I have tried different springs with no luck to slow it down also added an extra rubber band and still no change can some give me some help or any other ideas?
cheers mick

Change the coils. Spaulding and Rogers coils suck. Their made chinsy. I had pumas when I started out used to get hot as heck. Changed the coils, No more problem. Still sold em'

change the front spring to a lower gauge, it will go slower then. and change the back spring to a lower gauge also, this will make it slower and also lower theduty cycle, and fuck with the contact point ,while the machies running, this may sort out the hz changing also. butdo the thingstheysaid but this may work and will be cheaper aswell, cheers.DAN, WALES

thanks for the tips,I will change the coils then as thats the only thing I haven't tried yet,do you think this could be the prob also with the machine running erratic as whatever i tried i couldn't seem to tune it no matter what gauge springs, volts etc.?i thought that their might have been a bad connection some where but i have checked and replaced all the rubber and plastic parts with no luck?i also have a caplin machine with the same problem, out of the 3 machines I have the only one that seems to be really good its a brett stuart machine, this machine responds well for shading and coloring and is really smooth.
cheers mick

One thing on youre coils is make sure ther shimmed right, that can overwork yourer machine as well.

are you getting arking at the spring if so the cap. needs to be replaced drawing to many amps causing the arching. Then over heating the coils because of the extra draw of amps.

Spaulding Coils just suck. Get some from technical or pulse.

I had a couple pumas about 11 yrs ago they did seem to run very quick and sometimes a little hot..but for fast lining they were pretty good..I still have a couple huck machines a supreme and a stinger liner runs fast..I still use from time to time...change coils adjust springs good luck..pipster

By the way if your machine has a little contact point file with an emery board and adjust screw this will smooth out running erratic if its the point..pipster....... 8)

little blue spark at the tip of the spring and the adjustment screw.

your not sayin that there shouldbe no spark attall, evennew machines i get have a small spark if i push on the a-bar.

might be to much rear spring force or not enough...either one may cause your coils to work harder than they should.

on a well tuned machine, you shouldn't get any spark. even bran new one can get shipped tuned but with the travels it get out of adjustment. Think of the package in ace ventura pet detective. Not in that extrem but they do get tossed around.

all my machines spark but they dont when theyre just running, they do when i push the abar

it's sparking because you are holding the amature bar. Yes I got that, but a free running machine no restaints of your finger or band too tight. There shouldn't be spark. when you hold the bar the electicity is able to go the exact point of travel and grounds out to the nearist point ie spark.
i hope that explains more

If your machine is sparking and you know it is tuned right, check your capaciter, it could be going bad or have a bad connection. I just fixed a machine with that problem yesterday, it was sparking way to much, so I took it apart and their was a bad connection on the capaciter. Soldered it up and now it runs mint.
