Applying white

Hey everyone, I have a really dumb question, that I should really know as Ive been tattooing for years...anyhow, Ive never used white much, My wife asked me to do a flower on her that starts out dark purple and fades through to pink then fades to whire on the edge/tip, Ive always left stuff like that void of ink, but She wants white, Should a guy color the white last, covering the rest of the colored area with vaselene or A&D oint so it dont get contaminated or vise versa?

White should always be put in last , if you put it in before a darker color , theres a chance that you will darken the white as you wipe/clean the tattoo.
