I have had my machines for about two years or more, liner and shader are both Joe Kaplans east coast style. It was a little trouble first starting out but once i learned about tuning a machine and all everything started to fall into place.,straighter lines and fuller shading.I plan on upgrading to some pulse equipment by summer, but i will hang on to my east coast style machines.

How did you blow the coils, did they actually go pop or bang or is it a figure of speech, if they went pop it would probably be the cap, if the coils exploded then I would check out your power supply before plugging in a new machine.

P.S. I don't think the Kev Shercliff machine is worth repairing, I think you should sell it me cheap!

i own 2 danny's tattoo machines. these are from a supplier in the uk(danny's tattoo supplies)As these were the first machines i ever bought i had nothing to compare them to, and obviously my technique wasn,t too developed. since then i have bought kev shercliffe machines hearing of his good rep. these machines r good but i found them light compared 2 the danny's brass machines and a bit fragile. the only problem with dannys machines is they have a jack plug power connection which is why i didnt use them for a while. anyway i fitted a clipcord connection to one of the machines and used it today. i have to say i was very pleased . i found it to be a real good smooth runner. i love the extra weight.i suppose its a personal preferance ,and the fact my technique has improved since i last used them. i just wish they didnt have the jack plug connection which is a pain in the arse but i also love the flexibility of the machine(brass bolt up)which can be adjusted from liner to shader in seconds by having an adjustable spring hanger. has anyone else used these machines much and what do they think

I got a nice brass D Fowls '01 #1793 as my liner(love it), not sure what my shader is. I bought them off my tatoo artist, he said the shader came from the U.K. but its been running like crap lately so I just ordered a YATES mud flap girl(brass) 10 coil. Anybody use YATES guns? I haven't got it yet. I was also wondering about PRECISION tattoo machines and NEXT GENERATION, if anyone could tell me where to find them and/or how good they are I would appr it. Thanks. Oh i'm guessing D Fowls (engraved on the bottom of the gun) means Danny Fowler?? Anyone?

I have used machines from all the places you are talking about, they are pretty much what you make of em! Thats just my 2 cents.. Right out the box, I would say NG, but thats just me. Hope thats helps you out...

my tattoo artist uses NG machines. I just asked him the other day how he liked em, he said thier good but not enough to but another set.
I got my Yates machine, seems to run very strong, also its a bit heavy, I think i'll like it though, I haven't used it yet.

check the tension in your rear spring, 10V is getting up there.

1. I have an aluminum liner that i rebuilt using an old kaplan east coast frame.. it lays solid lines.. but I hardly ever use it.. Completely retired and in parts now..
2. An old coastal swing gate that I rebuilt.. decent.. rebuilt again..now its just for packing color with mags
3. Technical Cutback from TTS.. good fast liner.. still going strong
4. A Grinder Dave/Lucas Ford custom handbuilt shader.. my most prized possesion.. I dont use this much.. mainly because I never want to wear it out..

next machines I'm getting are gonna be workhorses..Never ended up getting any of these..yet.

Since then I have picked up a National Deluxe swing-gate liner... and a Mickey Sharpz contraption shader.. they are my daily drivers..

For shading I have a Fowler Invader which rocks with a seven mag, just bought a G force for solid work, Two Glyn flews( nice E bay machines) Early irons custom for lining (awesome machines) and an Iron strongman from here which is my colorer for small rounds. Now that I became decent at tuning and tearing machines apart I seem to be able to get most machines to suit me. A tip from a 2 year beginner to other new guys. Buy a machine from here ( good at a good price) tear that sucker apart, fool with it to get that abar smacking that front coil flat, fool with the springs and air and point gaps. Everything will eventually make sense JUST REMEMBER try your machines out on yourself before someone else!!

Is that the one which you CAN'T adjust to your own style of working? Voids the warrenty if you do? All parts inc. springs replaced free as long as you alter nothing?

This i don't get? Thought you were supposed to tune a machine to work for you, NOT adjust your style to the machine?

Just added an Iron Horse mini to my collection, was cheap, runs great, looks pretty. Ofcourse any "mini" machines amuse me. I think the short coils look sexeh.
