Hey I am working a tat, and it is the John Deer Logo on this guys back. It is taking forever for the skin to take the ink, I am using the green gob, Millienium ink. My friend who I am working on, went to this other parlor and they totally dis'ssed the Milliniums and said they were crap inks. Is it cuz the green is so hard to work? I have found that everyone has different skin and inks all take differently. But I have always thought that Milliniums were the best? What is your opinion?

Greens I was told a long time ago takes some practice, not the easiest to work.

Is there any type of special technique you suggest?

I've been told alot of color such as blues and greens have to be cut or thined down.

I use strickly starbrite inks and have never had a problem with green or any other color they make taking on the skin. You might want to look into them. deep green and true green look dark in the bottle, but go in nicely. The lime green is badass and bright. I'll be posting an ambigram I dod with lime green starbrite if you want to check it out in the albums.

How much difference is there between these brands? Is there a different viscosity to them?

dont know about eternal , but i know the intenze is pretty thick
and starbrite isnt ...i use both
i would'nt use starbrite for a cover up , too thin !!!
but i would definately use intenze , diiferent tattoos need different inks.

cool looking forward to seeing them
Hi guys,ok im no expert but i would say that the problems that most newcomers have with inks is more to do with the technique used to apply it,rather than the brand used!.I have seen artists do lovely colour work with pigments that many would consider to be mediocre pigments, dont forget Starbrite,Mom,Intenze havent always been here.
I did once speak to a supplier/artist myself after having problems with colour ,his words to me being.."colouring is not as easy as everyone believe's,to get it perfect you need practice, practice and more practice"

do you think that a circular motion is preferred in application of the greens? take in mind, this is also a larger tattoo size, 5"x5"
It can be that most common problem you have been working with there, Gob Green is one of the ligther green´s and they are ligthen with white ink and when you tattoo with light green it can look like the skin dosent take the ink very well, or look very white , but it´s in the skin , my opinion you have owerworked the skin to get the green in but it was there.
In the shop were I work the boss make his own ink from dry powder and its need more attention and slow work than the pre dispenserd inks I have been there in the start done the same with geen.
sorry for my spelling.

Are you riding the tube or the needle?

I am also not so uptodate with my terms. When you say ride the needle, or ride the tube, does that mean pressing or applying pressure on either?
Don't worry about your english, your doing fine. I can always use a critique.
I press on the tube like a pencil and let the needle do the work. I have been using a 8R shader and a 14R shader and tried a 7 Magnum too.
Riding the tube means that the needle sticks out about 1/16th 0ut of tube when needle bar is pressed down and the tube is against the skin when you are tattooing so the depth is the same through out the process.I ride my needle thats when the needle sticks out of tube more than 1/16th when needle bars is pressed down or when it is running so then you can see the needle while tattooing but you have to determine the depth of the needle as you work so you wont go to deep.

What was the first part of the tattoo that you did, the border or the solid green part. After careful study of the picture it seems to me like maybe your inks need a better shaking to mix them up as the ink looks too weak or even the area that you are working is too bloody and is diluting the ink with blood. If I come across a bloody area I clean my tip regulary to avoid dilution of the ink, do you understand where I am coming from.

the border was the first part that I did, and then did the inside shading a couple of days later.
