Hey everyone,
I was doing a tattoo last week and blew BOTH capacitors on my liner and shader machines...WTF??!! Ive never done that before, My shader for some reason started sounding like a mac truck running very rough and loud, Ive ripped it appart and and put on a new capacitor, cleaned the frame up with a rotary tool and polished it all up, but it is still loud. I was never loud before. My liner runs quiet but keep blowing capicitors, I run my PS slow on both as my hand speed is slow, Im also getting a lot of splatter, I use disposable tube assemblies, so I think that it may be the cause for the splatter, Im not sure though, I should probibially invest in some SS tubes with open tips and see if that helps...Any advice???

I usially use 1 rubber band for lining, 2-3 for coloring, Both machines have O-rings, and U\I mainly use disp tubes

I am aware that over voltage will blow a capacitor, seems odd for both machines to blow, I suspect power supply problems. Do you have another machine that you could try?

get some pulse coils or top yourself

This happen to me a while back also,i started narrowing things down and ended up finding a blown fuse in my power supply box.Its only happened once and i havent had any thing happen of that nature since.Im not saying thats the problem but i would take a peak. Its also good to have a spare fuse around along with alot of other spare equipment just in case, you never know what can happen in middle of a tattoo.

For reasons like this I have 3 power supplies and 7 machines. I would hate to be in the middle of working on someone and my only 2 machines go down, or blow a power supply.
I got a little poop when I bought the last 2 machines, but cause of casses like this, I can deal with a little poop to avoid BIG POOP in the long run.

Makes sense to me, I have 2 power supplies, 2 power cords and 8 machines, you won't catch me with my trousers down............ just got to learn on how to tattoo now!

if ya keep popping the caps and you got splatter
turn the vs down

Im running my shit real slow allready, For lining I run about 5-7 v, for coloring 3-4, and still seems to run really fast..even with 3 elastics to slow the needles down. Am in the process of re-assembling my mechines now, gonna try some diferent sized capicitors see if that helps.

I get the feeling that your power supply is lieing to you. It may say 5 volts but I have a suspicion that it's putting out a lot more than that. You can hear the difference in the way a machine runs when you go over the amount of voltage that the tuning of the machine calls for. I have an old shader that anything over 6 volts makes it start to sound like a lawnmower. A couple of my other machines run smooth at 9 to 9.5 volts
Also the amount of voltage you run your machine at has nothing to do with how fast it's running. The springs/armature bar/point gap determine the speed a machine runs at. The amount af voltage determines the "intensity", for lack of a better word, that your machine runs at. Lower voltage results in a softer hitting machine, jigher voltages makes it hit harder. There are exceptions to this but generally this is true.
