if you are willing to take drawing courses or reseach color theory learn to airbrush or paint it will enhance your tattooing abilities ten-fold.tattooing becomes a marrige of all other artforms.the key is your ability to see and interpret what is seen onto any medium,be it solid canvas or skin

In the past Ive owned a sucessful airbrush business for several years, within the last few years Ive begun dabbling in pinstriping, and brush painting, specifically Sumi-e or Japanese watercolor. Growing up I was always into drawing but my primary focus was on pointilistic art with the pen.
I feel it has helped me in the Tattoo art community a great deal.

I also agree that you the tattoo artist should have artistic skills with the drawing or an second medium. So that you have the imagination or vision. Then to be able to put that vision into the tattoo.
If any one has a hard time visulize a picture. should think of taking classes at the local community collage.
Just my two cents.
