got a spade with flames about a week ago on my wrist.Three days in my wrist swelled up.Its not real painful, only a little tender to the touch. After browsing here,a call to the guy who did it and a check with a nurse at work,I'm fairly certain its not infected, but that I'm reacting to the red ink.(MOM'S-Monthly Red)Anyone had this happen with a tat before and/or any suggestions as to how long it will be swollen and any care for treating this.I have several other tats with red in them and have never had this happen before. Thanks for any input.

Not gonna be much help here but...
I read somewhere that people have reactions to red more than any other color. Can't say if it's true or not, cause I don't remember where I read it. Just one of those things that sticks in your head.

it has to do with the chemical composition of the pigments in some reds.some people have a allergic reation to it. MOMS is actually millenium colors.you might need to go to there homepage or one of the suppliers who carries millenium inks and ask about what chemicals makes up monthly red

my wife had a reaction to red once we used hydrocortizone cream on it to releive the discomfort but it took awhile to go away. keep an eye on it thou sometime reactions turn into open wounds and alot of scaring.

Todays been a week-the swelling is almost gone but there is a hard crust over the tattoo. The colors still good but kind of shiny.I'm going to leave it be for a while .I'm guessing the skin will wear off naturally over time andthen I'll see how the ink looks then.

Ive always had a slight reaction to Red.
Ive got red in 4 pieces, and every time the Red seems to more tender than the other colors. Its not real bad reaction but its noticeable.
Ive read a lot of people have the same problem, also read that there are sometimes very minute trace amounts of mercury in red. Gotta remember the ink undustry i kind of unregulated, and Ive never seen ingredients listed.
I get a reaction to red like this. Despite all better healing techniques the only thing that works with red and my skin is drying it out. Washing twice a day and that's it for a few days. Otherwise I have swelling, excessive scabbing etc.. Only on red. I love red though, so I was forced to see what works for me. :-)
i thought it was orange at first as i done some flames on my inside calf with red orange and yellow after a few days the other parts helaed but the red and orange parts all raised up and went kinda lumpy.still recovering now.i think ill stay away as its realy uncomfotable.

It took about a month for the flames to finally heal.It felt like a burn for awhile with swelling and redness. Then it flaked off really bad and I was afraid there would be some color loss but there wasn't.It came out ok in the end but I'll have to remember if I ever get red again what to expect.
