Is it possible to use a 5RL to shade/color, and a 14RS to line? Or are the liners grouped to tightly and the shaders to loose for reversing their intended purpose. I realize using a shader to line will result in a brken line that will have to be gone back over, but if you speed it up and make it hit harder, will it chew up the skin or lay down a descent line? Thanks in advance.

5rl could be used for coloring in small tattoos like half dollar size or for smaller lettering and more experienced tattoo artists can execute shading techniques with a 5rl it takes some practice but you'll get it . as far as 14rs for lining goes it can be done but the results will probably satisfy you more if you take your 5rl and double your outline and fill in the gap. I mean its not impossible to do it with a 14rs but the lines come out much cleaner with the double lining. But if your new at this then the more you use your machine the more you will learn. who knows you might be able to line with14rs better than anyone if you study its perameters.

I like to use a liner needle to shade in flowers. It gives extra depth to the flower using a curved whip shading technique. Also ribbons.

Try lining with loose 3r and loose 5r in other words 3round shader,5r shader or a 8round shader.I have no need for tight needles,at least for my experience.More prone to cause skin trauma. If I need to tattoo something too small for a tight grouping I just dont do it,a waste of skin and ink.
