I've never seen this topic discussed here before. It does happen from time to time. How would you deal with it? Whats the first thing to do?

In the past two years of tattooing I've had one incident. I was tested for all the HEP's and HIV at my local health dept and innoculated against HEP B.

The incident I had involved removing the needle from my machine after use. My gloves were wet and the machine slipped. As a natural reaction to dropping something I attempted to catch it as it fell. Unfortunately the needle managed to stab into my left forefinger. I treated the area with alcohol and washed my hands with a sanitizer. The next day I got myself down to the local health clinic and got tested for everything.

Hey Papa Gee dosent it take a window period of 3 to 6 months for certain things(like HIV) to show up on tests of that nature.

Here I found this for people who are interrested.

First order of business after a stick with a hot sharp is to mitigate the hazard so that no one else sticks themselves with it. Then in close order, wash your hands with a good medical scrub. Best thing to do would be to get checked again. Better safe than sorry.

Squeeze it straight away. If you can get any blood/fluid out of it, that will help if infected then wash.

Ifive, you're right. This incident happened over a year ago and I've been back for follow ups twice.

I never had a needle stick incident but I worked at hotel in Yosemite and one of my co-workers was changing the trash in a hotel room and a needle stuck her in the leg through the bag. For her it was a pretty scary situation. I remember she had to wait along time to find out. I mean want kind of scumbag throughs a sharp into a the trash. The hotel would not even call the person who rented out the room to find any info out. My point is everybody be carefull and dispose of everything properly.
