Hello people
Im exremely new to this board, although I have been browsing for a few weeks now. There is one or two things I would like to ask about local courses that I could look into to cater for a mature student with a full time job and a family. You see, I want to do things in the correct order and the first thing that makes the most sense to me is peoples well being. I have read about the practical side and it is really interesting, but I dont want to get too caught up with that just yet. I want to learn this trade, and learn it right. I feel like I would have great difficulty in gaining an apprenticeship as I work full time, doing continental shifts (four on, four off) so it is with great regret that the way for me, seems to be the self taught route.
I would consider myself to be slightly old for this now, but I have been married and had a family since I was 20 so time as never been on my side, but I have made my mind up, and have come to the conclusion that waiting for stuff to happen is no use and I have got to do it for myself. I have always loved the art of Tattoo and have always been quite good at expressing myself with pencil and paper. I am 37 so this isnt a pubescent faze im going through (although, being 18 again would be great)
I would like to know if anyone local to me, who happens to read this post could give me any info on relevant courses for hygiene and blood related contamination and control, that I could study at night or flexibly through the day?..........

..........and also (this is a long shot, I know!!) anyone who is prepared to point me in the right direction for any, "on site" practical help, for a willing (mature) student to help out occasionally in a shop environment during my idle days off work. I supervise about 16 men and have great responsibility during my working day so I do have a very healthy respect for health and safety...................

..............Phew!! that felt like a job application........please excuse the shameful plugging and if anything that I have touched upon has been duplicated over and over again on the forum, then my sincerest apologies.

Looking forward to some direction...............thanks for looking.

Mr. Bill

First of all, welcome to the board. Great people and lots of good info. Be sure to read through all of the old back posts, many questions you may have will be answered there.

Being in the United States I can't speak to requirements in the UK. but the Red Cross has an online course for tattooists at http://www.redcross-indy.org/ERTS/browseOnline.asp?function=2&CourseID=2 It's inexpensive and the knowledge you would gain can't hurt. You might also check out http://www.tatsmart.com/ some good info there as well. Hope that helps some.
