I'm a newbie to tats per se but i'm com'in along. Iv'e learned how to do tats in prison and have different style to some. Saved a few bucks and ordered a kit, done some on my friends. They say " It's ( the tat done on them ) hot" , or they say damn , you should be in a shop". But for some reasonI am never satisified with the work that I do , always thinking bout "hhhmmmmm , it would be better if i add this ..." Well, My question(s) are what are the differences between mags and flats? Can I use 14 round shaders to do the same type deal? I realise te strokes are different, but there seems to be more time involved if i use a flat or mags to get the shade effect that I want. Can some you dudes give some feed back ? I could use the help!!!

First or all welcome quietdragon

Yeah as voodoo says use the search engine at the top of the page.

Do you have any pick of the work you have done on " the inside"? I've seen some amazing shit from a one needle gun.

But on the out side make sure you follow the rules of bbp and cc.

get too reading all the back post...

Glad to have ya,

My buddy had a shop, before mags were mainstreamed (they were around but not as common) then got locked up. He said the hardest thing about the mags (for him) was being very aware to not "Cut sideways" as he could with single needle. So he had to plan in his mind more carefully, how each tattoo would be executed.
They all have their own effect. I think you can create just as gorgeous tattoos with ech, but they have unique qualties. If you study portrait pieces closely you'll be able to see which are mags and which are rounds.

Welcome Quietdragon. I just started using mags and probably won't ever go back to rounds for certain applications. I can achieve the same shading and coloring effects as I did with rounds, but it seems with alot less effort and passes. It was simply a slight tweeking of my technique to get similar results. I have noticed that my mags work much better, when my machine is turned WAY down, it hits much softer and seems to pack ink better. I'm using 12 wraps on my shader, and that sucker will still run at 2-3v. I don't tattoo that low but it's a strong runner none the less. My shader I usually run @ 4-6v and the machine I use to color I run it between 5-7v, this is just what works for me and the machines I have set up. The man I apprenticed under lined @ 12-15v and shaded and colored 9-12. So it's really a matter of tuning and seeing what works for your technique/hand speed and machine setup. Don't disregard magnums altogether, I love using them, it like anything else just takes some patience and practice. I'd like to see some of your work. I may be heading your way for the spring bike rally we usually go down for both the spring and fall rallies, so maybe we can get up and have a cold one.
