my buddy was wondering if i could tat up his pitbull. its whiteand brown with white legs. now i said no but just for shit and giggles. has anone ever heard of that? and is it illegal? i mean the dog has no choice and that seems wrong. but i kind of laughed at the idea of his dog with a teardrop, thug life on his chest and gangster sleeves. i bet its been done somewhere though. what do you know?

This is kind of the same thing. I have heard of farmers branding cattle with tattoos. I would think doing it to a dog would be illegal and cruel to the dog. It would probably bite your ass.

K9's used in Law Enforcement are tattooed with their serial and ID numbers all the time. Matter of fact bein the g/f is the only vet in town that BP and Custom's trust, Im gettin to do the inking of the next batch of K9's that comes down the pipe.....

It's called cruelty to animals and can land you some time in jail. This may vary from State to State though.
None of the K9 Officers where I work ever get tattooed, however they do carry their own badges. (K9's are considered officers just like humans).
I know people get id #s and stuff tattoed on there cattle and other animals never heard about on a dog tho, i bet PETA would love to see a tattoed dog, and how would you get the dog not to bite you? Even if its legel theres no way in hell i would tattoo an animal, besides how would you get them to sign a waiver?

Its called chemical sedation, and it happens on everything from complex surgeries to simple teeth cleanings....

Im sure not every LE Agency does this, but Im sure not every LE Agency faces the same threats, response, or situations everyday either....

A friend of mine got a dog from the pound (columbus, ohio), and it had a little bone tattooed on it's belly. I guess they do this so they can tell which ones are fixed and which are not.

I owned 2 Pitbulls. Just put my 16 year old down last week. Tough feakin thing to do.
Your friend should think twice about this. The breed gets enough of a bad rap, you dont need to tattoo the poor animal. Do you really think the dog is psyched up to get ink?
No offense to you, but as someone thats done Pitbull rescue work and has been around the breed my whole life; its not cool. Your friend should consider getting a fish, leave the Pitbulls to responsible owners. The last thing the world needs is another idiot trying to be a bad-ass by having a dog that can be a lethal weapon if untrained.

i have seen people with tattoos on pt bulls here in tn but these are dogs bred for fighting by some redneck in his trailor. i once made a comment to an owner about this to the effect of "bet that hurt your dog" and he said "NAW SHE TOOKER BEDDERAN YOU WOOOD!" its sad man. the funny thing is the tattoo said "DADDY'S GIRL" go figure. i have also heard of registration numbers too.

animal marking is a long time honored tradition with alot of diffrent breaders allthough its not exactly what we consder a tattoo for instance i have two ferrets that are both tattooed with two dots inside their ears my lab also has a breeders mark on him as well which i dont see anyproblem with for one is good way insure that your not interbreeding dogs or any animal for that matter that has been marked from the same breeder should you so decide to have an animal of yours bred for that reason alone i see no problem with it but for fun????? ummmm come on would you tattoo your kid before he or she could have a say in it??????? if the answer is yes maybe you outta take a step or ten away from your machines and rethink your ethics a bit before resuming tattooing again

That dog didn't give you permission to tattoo it, didn't sign a consent form, and I bet he'd bite the hell out of you if he could. You also shouldn't let a damn dog in your shop! You gonna throw away your machine afterwards? We know how to kill human pathogens, but dog? ain't no way to know for sure (yeah autoclave should work, but do you know for sure?) It's a dog for christ sake, love them, feed them, snuggle with em, but cause them pain? I.D. numbers have been used for a while, but they don't ever get your dog back. Only honest caring people check id's (even collars) and give your dogs back. So if someone stole a dog, it would take an extremely honest person to shell out money to the theif and then return the dog to you. No Consent, No Tattoo!!! it's always been the way.

i know this is an old post but i found it while browsing and just had to drop my 2 cents,
to the OP, if your friend was infront of me now i would punch the fuckin life out of the gormless twat! tattooing not just a dog but "his" dog, does he have no feelings regarding this animal? and has he ever been tattooed, so he knows how painful it can be?.
the idea of wanting to tattoo your pet for a laugh sickens me, he should have the animal removed from him.
yes animals are tattooed and branded for id, but these usually contain a few dots and a squiggle, not sleaves and gangster slogans.
you & your friend are gimps!.
