Hey there, this might be a dumb question, but I bought some stainless steel tubes to use ONLY on my husband and myself, to see how the weight deals out, and if it helps my hand at all. I don't have an autoclave yet. Is it okay to clean these with chemical disinfectant (since they are brand new from a dist.) and them scrub them thoroghly with soap and water/alcohol? Since I will ONLY be using them on us? I use disposables for everyone else. I would assume the answer would be yes, it's okay, but I would like some feedback anyways for piece of mind. Thanks everyone.

well expect to get yelled at by a few people here, i asked the same thing awhile ago, and a few people said it was fine but others said it wasnt. Some said you could give yourself staff(spelling night be wrong) But i have several ss tubes that i only use on myself. Everyone else gets disposables.

I totally agree about the safety issue VooDoo, so what do you think about Disposable tubes with Stainless Steel GRIPS for the added weight. Would that be better? And if so, how would I PROPERLY clean them. REMEMBER! I am talking about PERSONAL USE ONLY ! Thanks again.

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but any part of your machine that isn't disposable and is autoclavable should be claved. Even if it is just the grip. The ink and blood smeared by accident onto your glove fingertips is enough to allow a staph infection to hide in the grip's grooves waiting for your next use. There are those that would argue that tattoos have been done for centuries with personal tattoo equipment, but technology and science has come a long way.
Single use tubes can be as effective as stainless. There are also a few more affordable autoclaves on the market. (I am not vouching for these claves, I just saw them on the internet.)
If the machine's weight or weight distribution is an issue, you could try a different style machine, a custom lightened frame, or maybe a machine with shorty coils.

try bigger grips on your disposables
i did have a post here that was bad advice but after thinking a little i realized that even though they would be for personal use that you are just as important as a client best thing is be safe use disposables and save up for an affordable stove top clave or some thing good luck

Easiest method - throw dirty tubes in a bucket of simple green and water 20simpleG / 80water mix. Let soak overnight. In the morning - pre open hours scrub tubes, ultrasonic in alconox 3 minute cycle, autoclave 30-40min - store in dry spot.

Well, I didn't get any replies I was hoping for, so I decided to put the stainless steel tubes and grips away until I get my clave. My husband and my safety are just as important to me as anyone else I tattoo. Well, thanks for helping me decide on the safer way to go!
