i live in iowa and this old artist in town whos name i wont mention has his rotweiler at his side at all times and if you dont like it you dont get tattooed. that sucks. i love dogs and all (well..pit bulls only) but either way isnt that a health violation? dogs are kinda dirty right. they piss on the ground and walk on the same spot the next day. and now its in a shop right at your feet? i dont know about that one. is it legal?

No Pets in a workstation, sterile room, cleaning etc. In the public area, depending on how much space is available this is not a health violation. A prime example is doctors offices - often you will find pets in the reception area (not in the exam rooms).

Hi,

It is against all Federal and or State OSHA to work with animals on the premise if you all under the "Blood Borne Pathogens" Standards which all tattoo artists do.

The only exception is a seeing eye dog or if a client has prescription for animal companionship due to post traumatic stress (very rare).

Hope the 'seeing eye dog' isnt for the tattoo artist.....
This sounds serious, I wouldnt want a dog slobbering about when someone was trying to work on me.

Good thread. I have seen many many shops with dogs and that was something that ran weird to me too.

I've seen them break a couple of Health codes on Miami Ink with pets. Oh and i've also seen chris nunez use deodorant to set a stencil, once.

I agree with this, as long as the dogs are not in the actual work area and are only allowed in the waiting room I dont see a problem with it.

Problem I see with this in a tattoo studio is this, Big johnny comes in for an examination of his cut to the side of his head where his little sister smacked him with a spade, he loves dogs, has three of his own at home ...

He pets the cute little american pitbull in the waiting room whilest he's waiting for the doctor, well, did HE (Johnny) wash HIS hands prior to the Doctor) or in our case, tattoo artist starting the tattoo, well, my guess is he didn't .. see the problem here ?

Just my tupence .. as well as, WTF would you wanna take your dog to work?

I think of my dog as being a part of my family. He goes with me everywhere and to work with me everyday.
