a/c verses d/c machines?

Hi, ive been tattooing for about 12yrs now with a/c machines and are looking at buying a new machine. Is there any difference between the 2 as far as how they perform, etc. I only have a/c but will be buying a new power supply soon so will probably get a lab type d/c one. Therefore will have to change the coils on my a/c machines.
