Hi all,
A friend gave me a bottle of red colour from Pelikan,
can any of the pelikan colours be used?
is Black the only safe ink they do?
is better than Talens black?

Thanks,
Alex.

Hi,
I have asked similar questions on other forums and Black seems like the only Pelican colour used for tattoo's. I have a tribal done in it, its runny and goes in the skin fast. Its not as Black as some like but I like it. new bottles carry the warning not for tattoo use !!

Best wishes Alan

I've only seen and used the black pelikan with the yellow lable and find it a little bit runn y , but for lining what can you want more than easy in the skin runny ink. Just follow the bead. Some may like a little bit blacker (once healed) ink thought so I'm thinking about going with the Talenz (which label color was the one I'd be wanting?) yellow or white?

read the label it will tell.........as far as i know pelickan only makes black ink suitable for tattooing, which i use, but only for b&g work. i dont like it for outlining it just isnt dark enough, i only use kuro sumi for outlines.........................nothing else

is pelikan the one that says indian ink on the bottle or description... or is that talens ? eitherway i have never used either for the simple fact it said indian ink and drawing ink.. put me right off even trying it.

some of these artists inks contain a preservative usually Phenol. Some say could be linked to cancer. Certainly non "tattoo" talens. contains it nowerdays and i believe it is commonly used in other artists inks. Phenol is a very poisonous chemical substance made from tar and also found in some plants and essential oils (scented liquid taken from plants). Phenol is used to make plastics, nylon, epoxy, medicines, and to kill germs. Also called carbolic acid.

This where a little knowledge can be dangerous.. Use tattoo inks only unless you know the ingredients.

speaking of danger...please be carefull , when mixing inks i've been asking some friends (suppliers - artists ) ..and DO NOT mix different brands of ink together ...its one thing to blend from one to the next ..but to actually mix different brands in a new bottle ...see there can be a reaction ..some pigments are alcohol based , some witch hazel ..the combo can cause a bad eaction

eternal triple black tribal is really good for going in the skin well. it is very thick but works a treat for colouring tribal pieces. i use pelikan for lining and find it ecellent for this purpose but not as good as eternal for solid colour(for me anyway).....i use pelikan for mixing greywash shades

I've got a whole B&G sleeve of just Pelikan ink. It looks good.
