I have only done a few tattoos up to now, but I am at the stage now where I would like to recommend a good aftercare ointment/moisturiser. The tattoos I have done have been on family members who have all had tattoos in the past so they pretty much know how to care for their work, but I would like to recommend a good, readily available product from the high street or local chemist. The only products I know of are Savlon, Vaseline or E45.
Savlon includes perfume as an ingredient amongst other things, but im no chemist so I dont really know what to look for. Vaseline is petroleum jelly which I understand can possibly draw the colour to the surface and that leaves E45 which in my opinion looks the best option as it contains no colouring or perfume.

In the past the tattoos I have had done professionally have advised Vaseline, but I have always gone with keeping the tattoo clean with warm soapy water and then letting it heal naturally.

What would be the best product to use in the uk.

Savlon make the healing process slow and scabby, the best thing to use in the UK is Bepanthen, it is basically nappy rash cream available from Boots, Williams the chemists, some Superdrug. The beauty of Bep is it reduced healing time with little or no scabs, try it and assess it yourself, its all I use now. If its good enough for a babys bum its good enough for my tattoos.

Aquired some Bepanthen and it is amazing stuff. Easily available and well worth the £2.49 I paid at Sainsburys. Healing time is reduced to about a week on the smallish tattoos I have done. I wont be using anything else now.( except plain moisturiser after about the first week )
