After I go trough an area with black it looks fine but when I check back after a few minutes it looks as you can see on the picture I've atached. Those stripes of lighter hue appears and the black isn't look as dark as I see in others pictures.
I use 13 mags for these tattoos. I used to blend adjacent areas but thatway I overworked the whole tattoo. When I take a closer look at the tattoo it looks pretty ok. Is it maybe due to the flash which I use on my camera and is it maybe normal. Does anyone can help me with this problem or had similar experience.

With a mag, you want to use small, overlapping ellipses. And a big problem I found myself creating was not dipping often enough. When you're filling with black, the blood will mix with the pigment. You may think you're getting solid coverage at the time, but healing starts to show the lighter spots. Hope this helps.

What i have been doing lately when im shading in solid black is to change my direction after going over the piece once, but not to over work the skin.I will still be overlapping but i will approach the piece at another direction before im completely done. Also i will take a little distilled water and spray the piece and it will really show any holidays or where it could use a little more attention.

I was wondering , do u find yourself dipping in the ink frequently when doing solid colors,, I have that problem ,i dip alot and it seems to run out quickly???--Could this be my setup?? or cuz im using dispoable tubes? But i always seem to be dipping alot??

Thats all i have been using is disposable tubes,so i dont think that could be the problem.Just make sure you are using the correct size of tube for your needle grouping. Also, are you using a good brand of ink?

O, if you think about those lines outside of the tribal, those are ment to be guide lines, I wanted to put some shading there thus cover them but the guy didn't show up any more ( he owes me money ...). I think that the outlines of the tribal are preaty ok. For coloring I use litle tight circles and an Iron Strongman machine. The air gap on the machine is preaty big because I tend to work slow. I use Kuro sumi ink. I gues that the solution to my problem is to practice more :)

get yourself a thin black like sumi and a a thickish one like Intenze True black just to drop a few names to get you used to thickness, dip them both, the sumi stops a lot of the coal like lumps forming on and in your tip and rinse off every now and then, work evenly in different directions pushing the ink to the lines especially using mags and slow your hand speed, on large tribals you tend to get bored and speed up a little, start a convasation with your client...helps with the boredom of large tribals. I find solid black tattoos like painting a wall black...when it dries you see what you`ve missed

Tribals are ugly and boring to do, every tattooist i know hate them just takes a lot of time filling and filling black and is a very impersonal tattoo!!
But the klients have always right, so if they really wants them and u cant talk them out of it, well then u just must take on your smileface and do it:)
I use big magnums, then job is done pretty fast!

I think I found the solution for my tribal solid black. In the picture which I posted I used 13 mags. The problem whit these mags is that if the skin isn't thigten enough the needles on the side will penetrate more than those in the midle. There fore I get those stripes in the tribal. From now on I won't use these mags any more though I would like to try the curved mags I heard they are great.
