I like it looks kinda pastel or chalk like without the black outlines, looking at the last few pics you've posted your pretty diverse with your tats and i really like that, you don't stay with the same old sh1t, pics of tribels are really starting to bore me, you seem to float between the old skool and new skool design which is really cool. Im looking foward to seeing more of your work.
by the way how long have you been laying ink?

Thats unbelievable man!! are they blind!! i would be happy to let you ink me up any day( unfortunatly i live in Ireland) if you keep it to the standard (or higher) that you've been doing lately people will be dying to work with you! i know so called professional artists that to me don't meet up to the standards your putting out!! Have you ever thought of opening your own shop?

yes,but cant afford it as of yet, startup cost is near 10k.....and theres a catch 22 in this state,i have to apprentice in a shop for 1 year before i can get lisenced.so moving to another state is a strong possiblity

The apprentiship part is a bit of a set back then? even the fact of you willing to move to another state shows how dedicated you are in persuing tattooing as a proper job! and looking at your work i can understand why! I cant see why any tattoo studio will not take you on! i've seen alot of home tattosits (including myself) puting out some nice pieces of work, but at the same time not at the quality that you do! your even mixing your own colours which is quite advansed, it would be a real shame if you never got a chance to work in a studio and make a name for yourself! dont get me wrong im not saying your an unbelievable tattooist, but i do believe one day you will be.

Mr. Colorist, I think that probably looks much better in person.
Black is a color VERY rarely found in nature, it's good that you're basically steering clear of it.
I found it interesting to note that the technique appears to be lay down outline, lay down black shading, like an underpainting, and then color over it.
I think the next quantum leap in tattooing will be figuring out how to do underpaintings in tattoo ink that pop when the over color is laid.

my thoughts exactly freddie, youve seen black and gray done in a photorealistic style,im trying to prove to myself that the same can be achieved with even more dynamic realism in full color, with me its not so much a underpainting but more of "staining" the skin with deeper or richer values.i saw the rose on the young later yesterday, and the deeper golds and oranges contrast so strongly with the pastel yellows now until it has a even sharper photographic quality.i'll take some more pics and keep ya posted

That's an interesting study--- how colors interact and stain each other. Would dark into light work better than light into dark, and how does the person's innate skin color affect the process?

it depends on the piece, with the rose i started with the main body of color, the yellow, which would be the medium value, then i worked back and forth between the lights, the lemon yellow the yellow whites and the darks, the golden yellows orange and burnt orange,it took 3 sessions, its not to be rushed.i let that heal.came back with the lightest yellows more staining in the darker areas.added the background for contrast.and completed the stem ans leaves.the lighter the skin the more lighter colors can be used.darker skin tends to dull or camouflage pastel colors. the skin should be moisten for staining to work well. needles used, 7 mag and 9 mag

So the principle is do the lights then work in the darks? Do the colors mix optically or physically?
In other words, what kind of color mixing does it work out to be?

i work in both directions,a lil light a lil dark, trying to get the feel for the piece, sort of like a polaroid developing.the base color is usually my foundations and the darker tones are the framework.study a photo of something in nature, and try and analyze the various shades that makeup the object(s).even if you have to convert the photo to grayscale.you have to be able to see fully,so u know where one value begans and another ends.this would tell your eyes where the imaginary starts and stops are,the staining or blending smooths out those starts and stops.and they mix both optically and physically in the skin.but its a very very delicate touch when its done,i work very quickly.it would probably be considered unorthodox by most tattoo artist, but this is the way i know that works for me.if you saw me actually do it youd see alot of gaps and what you would think of as missed areas,to me they arent, those areas are to be incoporated as the piece unfolds.
